INTRODUCTION This guide is to help users to familiarise with the services and facilities available at the Main Library of Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The Library Guide for the branch libraries is available separately at each library. It is our commitment to provide the best available services and facilities to students and academicians in their pursuit for intellectual excellence. LIBRARY AT A GLANCE Universiti Pertanian Malaysia was established in 1971 as a result of the merger between the College of Agriculture Malaya and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Malaya. The Library of the College of agriculture Malaya thus became the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Library. The university was renamed as Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 1997 by than Prime Minister Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, and the Library later became known as the Universiti Putra Malaysia Library. Soon after on the 23rd May 2002, the Library was finally renamed and now known as Perpustakaan Sultan Abdul Samad (PSAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia, after the late great-great-grandfather of the current Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Alhaj. The present library comprises of the Main Library and four (4) branch libraries namely Medicine and Health Sciences Library, Veterinary Medicine Library, Engineering and Architecture Library and Bintulu Campus Library, Sarawak. Later in April 2012 as part of the library expansion, the “Graduate Wing” was created as to provide a special and conducive area exclusively for the postgraduate students. At this juncture the Main Library building comprises of two (2) blocks with a total floor area of approximately 19,007 square meters and able to accommodate about 2000 users at any one time. The building is fully equipped with Wi-Fi internet facilities which are available to registered users. The PSAS holds a very comprehensive collection of printed, media, and digital materials. There are also prominent and sizable online research databases and full text electronic journals in a various range of subject disciplines available for it’s users. These online databases and journals can be accessed within and outside UPM through the Library Website (http:// www.lib.upm.edu.my). Other service such as the Library webOPAC is available and can be accessed from the same website. Fines for overdue books RM0.20 cents for each day of late return • All fines can be paid at the Circulation Counter of the Main Library and Branch Libraries. • Users who have not paid their fines will be barred from all lending and renewal transaction. • If students do not pay their fines after 2 months, the fines will be transferred into Students Debtors Ledger. For staff, salary deduction will be imposed. 2. Loss of books / damped books / damaged book Before borrowing, users are advised to check the physical conditions of the book. If the books are not in good condition, users are required to have the book stamped with “Bahan telah rosak” at the Circulation Counter. Immediately report at the Circulation Counter of the Main Library or Branch Libraries, for further action: Replacement of books + service charge + fines, or Pay according to the price of the books + service charge + fines. Replacement / paying back for the lost books should be made within 1 month after the report is made. Failing which, fines will be transferred to the Students Debtors Ledger / salary deduction. If the books are found damped or damaged during returning, users are also responsible to replace / pay the fines. 3. Fines will be imposed on users who steal or damage the library materials. 4. Any form of duplicating or copying of information using electronic equipments at the Special Collection and Media Collection are prohibited. 5. Users are not allowed to reserve seats in the Library. 6. Children below 10 years old are not allowed to enter the Library. 7. Students are required to display student card while in the library. 8. The Chief Librarian has the rights to amend the Library Rules and Regulations as and when necessary. INTRODUCTION

LIBRARY AT A GLANCE

Universiti Pertanian Malaysia was established in 1971 as a result of the merger between the College of Agriculture Malaya and the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Malaya.

The Library of the College of agriculture Malaya thus became the Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Library. RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Fines for overdue books• RM0.20 cents for each day of late return• All fines can be paid at the Circulation

Counter of the Main Library and Branch Libraries.

• Users who have not paid their fines will be barred from all lending and renewal transaction.
