Principal’s Message
Have your say on early childhood reform
The South Australian government wants to hear your ideas for improving early childhood
education and support for families.
The Premier of South Australia is committed to leading early childhood education reform. As part
of this commitment, feedback is being sought from South Australian families and service providers
about early childhood education services that are needed to support young children.
Research shows that access to services such as preschools can reduce the effects of
disadvantage, giving children a better start to schooling, creating benefits that continue into
adulthood. It also tells us that it is more effective to support children’s development during their
early years than attempting to ‘fix’ problems when they are older.
Share your views and ideas about before and after preschool care, services for disadvantaged
children, and greater flexibility and choice for families when accessing preschool.
Have your say by visiting the YourSAy online consultation until 4 December 2015 and go into the
running to win one of three prizes.”
School Survey Online—www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/xxXe39pR
Please, please, PLEASE make the time to complete our School Survey Online. To date we have only
had responses from about 20% of the school population. Unfortunately this does not provide
comprehensive feedback from a wide cross-section of the community. The surveys are anonymous
and enable you to leave general and specific comments as well as answering simple questions. If you
have lost the code you require, please phone the office.
Class Structures 2016
To assist us with planning for classes in 2016, please inform us as soon as possible if your child will be
leaving the school in 2015. If your children will be leaving the school, please inform us in writing or
email [email protected]
Also, if you know of a family intending to enrol but haven’t yet, please let them know to contact
the school.

Looking for Pageant Volunteers
The Lobethal Christmas pageant is just around the corner. This year’s pageant will be held
on Wednesday 23rd December. Each year our school has entered a float for children and
families to join in the fun and represent the school. We have previously won the prize for
Best Float. We are looking for some parents or friends of the school to lead the planning and
organisation of this year’s float. We will support your creative ideas and communicate with
families about what children need to wear and bring on the night. Please chat with Belinda
or Anne in the Front Office if you are able to help and create some Christmas magic on
behalf of the school.
Student Medications
Please note that all student
medication held on-site will be
sent home with students on the
last day of term. We are unable
to store medication over the
holiday period.
The library is now closed for
borrowing. All items currentl on
loan are to be returned by Mon
30th Nov.
Glenunga International High School
IGNITE Program for Gifted Children
Glenunga International High School provides a range of accelerated learning options for
students. Students are selected for entry into the IGNITE Program through an ACER (Australian
Council for Educational Research) assessment which is held once per year in February. Each year
Glenunga accepts approximately 100 students through this process, based on student
performance. The assessment is open to students in Year 7 or exceptionally gifted and mature
Year 6 students for entry into Year 8.

This term we have been reflecting on
our journey from kindy to school. We
have visited Bushland Park to lead
the kindy in singing the song ‘Gold’.
This song was performed by many
schools across Australia at the same
time. We backed up our
performance at school with a further
performance with the kindy. In the
lead-up to the kindy children
transitioning to our school we have
reflected on the growth we have
made this year. We made books which we shared with the kindy children to
help them to feel welcome at our school. As with everything that happens as we grow, our role in
the school is changing as we help the new children begin their transition to our school. We have
begun to take on the role of leaders and have been very supportive and caring towards the big
group of children transitioning.
We then had time to read a
chapter of ‘The Enchanted
Wood’ before going on a
hunt to find the Magic
Faraway Tree. We have
enjoyed sharing the Enid
Blyton books.

Last Friday Room 2 went to the Adelaide Zoo…….
“We went for a night-time
tour” (Alex)
“I liked the
cookies and the
hot chocolate. I
woke up at 6
o’clock” (Jasper)
“In the morning the lions
roared” (Charlie)
“At the zoo I saw meerkats. One was
white.” (Josh)
“They don’t know why
it was white” (Eddie)
“We got into groups and explored the zoo” (Tilly)
“My favourite bit was the sloth and feeding the
meerkats” (Jayden)
“The monkeys were screaming” (Sophie)
“I loved the Zoo Snooze” (Oscar L)

Class 3 and 4 plus Mr Lock’s Year 4’s Bushland Park Adventure.
On Monday November 9th our students headed over to Bushland
Park for 2 days packed with fun, outdoor adventures.
Students got to choose from different sleeping options: some
sleeping in tents, some in swags and a few indoors. Thank you goes
out to the parents who came and set up tents and swags for the
children. It was great to see everyone pitch in together to ensure we
had comfortable sleeping arrangements for the night.
Students took part in an array of activities such as: fishing, yabbying,
boat building, night hiking and generally just enjoying the great
outdoors.
A HUGE THANKS goes out to our fabulous helpers who did an amazing job of supporting the
students, Mr D and myself on this camping adventure.
THANK YOU- Lucy Cahill, Kerri Tilbrook, Kirsty McIntee, Michelle Hill, Nell Ward and Cathie
Boerth. We really appreciated your help.
Thanks also to Ms Mant who came and ran some Art charcoal sketching sessions whilst other
students coloured in mandalas indoors with Ms Constable and Mr D was our main fisherman
(with lots of help from our wonderful helpers).
Food was a plenty and Harry Green was a great help cooking the barbecue Monday night.
After a late night hike, talent show and a movie, we had a VERY early start to Tuesday morning.
Students enjoyed a breakfast of pancakes, toast and cereal before helping each other pack
up their gear. Special mention to Lilli Sander for helping many students pack up tents and
swags.
After lunch and a Treasure Hunt, a very close competition of the longest mintie wrapper
tearing was fought out between Gabe and Hayley seeing Gabe the eventual winner. A last
tidy up before heading back to school for home time.

Class 4 put on a Celebrations Expo
in week 3 of this term. The students
chose a celebration from around
the world. They researched 5
guided questions about their
celebration and presented their
work on a table,
displaying information
they had gathered.
Their tables also
displayed artefacts,
symbols and pieces

ROOM FiVE Term 4
The audience is screaming like the rubber tyres on the road.
ADELAIDE CROWS ROCK!!! Yesterday Lobethal Primary School
got the advantage of meeting 5 members from the club.
They showed us a video that had Taylor Walker (#13) and Rory
Sloane (#9) included. They also played games and activities such
as a relay race, a quiz, and gave out prizes. Later in the day they all took us out to do a clinic and have a bit
of fun. We learnt a lot and had a great time.
Animals! Furry, slimy, creepy, crawly, cute, big and small. Class 5 are doing information reports on all these animals. They are study-ing different types of animals. `Snap’ goes Phuong’s crocodile. `Glob’ goes Ryan F’s gold fish. `ZzZzZzZzZz’ goes Laura’s koala. `Hisssssssss’ goes Rhyan B’s Colubridae Rat snake.
The students have been learning how to use Publisher along the way and studying their animal, whether it was a reptile or a fish. A carnivore, herbivore or an omnivore.
3.4 divided 10. Do you know how to do it without a calculator???
Well class 5 knows how to do it now. For the past fortnight the students have been learning about frac-tions, including how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. When you divide, you move the decimal place over to your left. you look at the number that you are dividing by (whether the number is 10, 100 or 1000) and see how many zero’s there are. Then you move the decimal place over that many times.
When you are multiplying you do the same thing, you just move the decimal place to the right instead of moving to the left.
P.S. quiz at bottom of the page.

What a busy term! The students have been working so hard to finish the
year with a Bang!
Nepabunna Expo
Students spent time working on and presenting their chosen research
on Indigenous topics at the Nepabunna Expo in Week Three. The night
was a huge success with the Gym set up as a mini museum, a smoking
ceremony and a camp fire with damper. The students were extremely
proud of their work and enjoyed sharing it with the community.
Aquatics Camp
Murray Lands Aquatics Camp is a highlight of the year for many students. The camp is a
great way to celebrate a year of hard work. Students shocked themselves with their abilities
to water ski and knee board. They were able to spend time interacting with each other in a
relaxed atmosphere. All groups helped with kitchen and dorm clean up and showed
manners throughout the camp. It was a pleasure to take these students on camp.
Midsummer Night’s Dream
Wow! What a performance!
Room Six has been rehearsing for this performance for almost two Terms during Drama
lessons. It was a perfect night for families to bring a picnic along and enjoy the performance
outdoors. All the students performed brilliantly acting with confidence and dancing with
style. It was a most enjoyable evening.
