Why does all of this matter?• Google has said that over 85% of its users never

make it past the first page of a search result. If you aren’t on the first page, you aren’t getting

Google Process• In order to show up on the first page of a search

term Google has to determine that your website is the “best result” for a search term.

• To determine the “best result”, Google scours the internet with programs they call “spiders”

• “Spiders” look for certain things on your website in order to categorize it in their search engine.

• These collective things Google looks for with their “spiders” are referred to as “On-Page SEO Factors”

Google Process• Once your website is categorized by Google’s

“spiders”, Google looks for other signs in order to determine on what page to place your website. To do this they look for things called “Back Links” and “Citations”

• A Back Link is a reference to your website on a different website. Google places a value on the website that mentions you, and if it has a high ranking, Google moves your website closer to the front page.

• A Citation is a listing of your website, name, and contact information on various directories, social media sites, and other respected places around the internet.

• These factors collectively are known as “Off-Page SEO Factors”
