Location is a central factor in business. Almost all business data have a location; a customer’s address, a store’s location, the competitor stores, a sales territory, a delivery route or an administrative boundary etc. Location awareness has a high importance for performance management.

• BI mainly refers to computer-based techniques used for identifying, extracting and analyzing business data, such as sales revenue by products and/or departments, or by associated costs and incomes.

• BI is typically viewed as an aggregation of several software tools and application markets in three primary segments: performance management and analytic applications, business intelligence and analytic tools, and data warehouse platform software. Each of the primary segments has sub-segments as follows: Business intelligence and analytic tools: Query, reporting, and analysis tools; advanced analytics

tools; spatial information analytics tools; and content analysis tools Performance management and analytic applications: Financial performance and strategy

management applications; customer relationship, workforce, supply chain, and services operations analytic applications; and production planning applications

• Geospatial information is specialized geographical information abstracted from other data sources, which is then available for real-time analysis

• Traditional geospatial technology has focused on spatial data management and processing. GIS and image processing software products provide powerful techniques for dealing with geospatial data while retaining a geospatial-centric focus. With the advent of the web, the use of geospatial data becomes an enabler for many mass-market

applications. Web mapping and location based services (LBS) are examples of this recent trend.

• Geospatial toolsets have one purpose: to derive information and communicate knowledge about things that have "where-ness“ GeoBI’s worth is largely determined by the types of spatial analytics enabled by spatial data . What geography adds to BI is the ability to segment data based on spatial patterns, and find

patterns of spatial clustering or diffusion. This adds powerful insights into information patterns that cannot be obtained in any other fashion.

• GeoBI is also about visualizing analytics- is a means of exploring and understanding data. It supports and accelerates the analysis process itself. You can ask a question, get the answer, and ask follow-up questions—all within visual interfaces
