Steve and Emma’s House

An issue with this location is the amount of cars which are in the drive on a day to day basis. As we plan on Steve living alone and Emma not being able to drive we would have to clear all the cars before we start filming shots. All in all, there is a lot of space in this location which leaves plenty of room for us to film, along with this we would be able to frame much easier as once the cars have been moved. In terms of lighting, this location is outside so we will have to rely on sunlight as our key light. This can be an issue as we will be limited to what times in the day we will be able to film. The location “Emma’s Bedroom” is also at this location which allows us to film two different locations in one day of filming. In terms of permission our group member Shannon lives in this house meaning it should be easy for her to obtain permission from the house owner. An issue in regards to sound is that this house is off a road, meaning that passing cars could ruin the continuity of shots as well as ruin dialogue between Steve and Emma

Emma’s Bedroom

There are a number of pro’s to this location, starting of with it being easily accessible as it is within the house we plan to film shot at (see Steve and Emma’s house same permission applies). In terms of lighting, this location has large windows which let in a lot of natural sunlight, this will most likely be our key light, this being said there are mains lighting within this room meaning that we aren’t restricted to what time of the day we wish to film this location. Sound shouldn’t be an issue for this shot as it is indoors. This being said the house that we are filming in is a family home, so there could be sounds from Shannon’s Family but I don’t think this will be an issue as it can easily be controlled. In regards to mise en scene, this room needs to be plain. This is because the first shot being filmed in this room is Emma moving into her new room. This should be easy to recreate as the room can easily be made plain. This room can also easily be made personalised as to show time passing from shot to shot.

Jane’s House (Emma’s Mum)

This location is ideal for a number of reasons. From the outside it does look like a house which would home a small family which we want to show to the audience. The house isn’t two big (indicating a higher class) or too small (which indicates a lower class) it’s big enough to look like a middle class family home which matches our character profiles. Lighting for this house is similar to Steve and Emma‘s house, there will be a lot of natural sunlight during the day as it is outside, an issue with this location is that we can only film in the day but it would be against our script to do otherwise. As this house is located within a avenue there are no main roads. This means that there shouldn’t be an issue with constant passing cars ruining the continuity of each shot, meaning that mise en scene and sound from shot to shot should be consistent. Unlike Steve and Emma’s house there shouldn’t be enough front drive space to fit more then two cars, which wouldn’t ruin the continuity of shots at all. As a fellow group member lives in this house, we should be able to obtain permission for this location with no issues at all.

School

The school location will be filmed at an actual school (the school I attend to be specific) In terms of mise en scene, it naturally looks like a school as it is one, this means that no changes to the location need to be made to make this knowledgeable to the audience. An issue with mise en scene could be students as we will have to film at this location during a school day, meaning that passing students could try to ruin a shot. As all the school shots are outside, this means that we are again relying on natural lighting. This will limit what time of the day we can film, but this shouldn’t be an issue as we don’t need to film at this location during the evening or night all in all it will allow us to create the high key lighting we want for this scene. In terms of permission we should be able to obtain it from the school head teacher, this shouldn’t be an issue as we attend the school in which we hope to film. Another advantage to this location is that it is spacious meaning there will be a variety of options when it comes to framing and camerawork. In terms of sound, a school is obviously a busy place meaning that people will always be around. Getting rid of the sound of background students could prove to be an issue but should be achievable with the use of a boom mic.

Coffee Shop (Costa)

This location again requires outdoor filming meaning that we are limited to filming during the day as sunlight will be an issue. In terms of the mise en scene, as we will be filming at an actual coffee shop, creating the mise en scene will be effortless. One thing which will be required would be purchasing coffee to make it obvious to the audience that our characters are at a coffee shop. As we will be filming outside the coffee shop and there is limited space it wont leave much room for camera placement. This issue also has some pros as it means that as this is a public location there wont be much room to get anyone unwanted in the shot. Sound could also be an issue at this location as Costa is quite a busy location, meaning that there are likely to people around we filming. We can combat this by filming later in the day when the shop isn’t as busy. Also using a microphone to limit the amount of background noise will help massively. Lastly, permission could be an issue when filming at this shot. Before we proceed with filming at this location we would have to make sure that we would be able to film by asking the store manager. If we can’t obtain permission for this location we have a backup coffee shop which we could use. As costa is located in the town centre, it means it’s easy to access for everyone.

Park

Similar to other locations, the park only requires outdoor filming. This means we are limited to the sun being our key light. This shouldn’t be an issue as we plan to film during the early evening meaning there should be sunlight, but dependant on the weather (i.e. cloudy) we may be able to have a more low key lighting which is what we want to create as this part of the teaser trailer will contain thriller conventions . Mise en scene at this location should be pre established as the surroundings will indicate that it is a park. This being said, as we will be filming in a public park, it will be vital that we don’t get a member of the public in the shot, as it will ruin the feel of the shot as well as causing potential legal issues. Sound at this location should be reasonable as it is quite a big part a good distance away from a main road meaning that the sound of cars shouldn’t ruin the continuity of sound from shot to shot. Again similar to mise en scene we are going to have to be careful of the public, as they could ruin the continuity of sound. As it is a public location is easy to access and doesn’t require to much walking with equipment as there is parking close by.
