Location Report

For my AS film studies creative artifact I observed the different locations that my two textual analysis films, The Maze Runner and The Anomaly, had used. The directors managed to meet the conventions of threatening, trapping, dangerous etc. by considering the locations carefully. I have tried to replicate this in my creative artefact through the use of mise-en-scene. I have attempted to create an environment, which presents similar ideas to those, present in my textual analysis.

Furthermore, in order to create a realistic artefact, which fits the genre of action- adventure and features gender representation, I had to choose locations, which the audience would expect within the genre. My location report below includes details and images of my locations, which I have chosen cautiously to, create a trapping atmosphere, which fits the conventions of an action, adventure and thriller film.

This is the location I will be using. I intend to use different aspects of cinematography such as angles, shots and movements to present the characters emotions and difference in power.

I will be using a high angle shot to present to the audience Dylan dying on the floor which will represent Anna’s superiority and power as well as Dylan’s weakness. I will also be using a long shot to show Anna holding the gun up at Dylan, which will create tension. Also the ending may surprise the audience as we previously would have witnessed Anna as inferior In addition to this, this frame will suggest that there was a bigger issue as the audience are unaware of why Anna owed Dylan money and what Dylan was planning to do to Anna and her family which makes the audience question which of the two characters is the protagonist and which character is the antagonist.

As it is in a park I will have to be careful to make sure that nothing gets stolen and keep all of the equipment nearby. In addition to this, as the ground is quiet uneven, it will be easier for the tripod to lose balance and fall over so I will have to hold the tripod all the time. Also, as the floor is uneven I will be using my

laptop to check that the shots are straight and not tilted. I will also have to check the weather and film when it is dry so that the equipment doesn’t get dirty or damaged due to the rain or the mud. Also I will be filming during the day and making it look darker during editing as it is more safer and convenient for my actors to film during the day.
