Location Recces Action Point Write-Up

1st Location – The Photography Studio

Action Point CommentsLook around the location. A small photography studio with professional

lights and a white and black background and digital slr camera available to use.

Talk to people there, organise filming permissions.

Photography teachers require a photography student to be present during photo shoot to ensure equipment is used correctly. I have done that and therefore able to use the studio.

Identify the equipment you need to use. A digital slr camera & professional lighting for high quality camera shots.

Examine and Identify any potential health and safety issues. (E.g. crowd numbers being controlled, being set up in a sensible location that does not block access points or that damages the environment or frightens livestock, any road/traffic issues etc.)

The cables for the lights are potentially hazardous to the person who could trip over them.

Check the positions of the sun and lighting conditions.

I have access to artificial professional lighting, in the studio it is indoors with no windows so the lights are effective.

Look for interesting shots and camera angles. studio – all shots available: full body shot, mid-shot and close up.

Check the electricity supply. The digital slr camera that is battery powered, is fully charged and will last the whole shot.

Check the nearby car parking/transport routes. On college site, my model attends college, therefore transport is not applicable.

Is the location suitable for production? Yes, this is my ideal location to produce images for my magazine.

2nd Location – Tilehurst- Overdown road pathway.

Action Point CommentsLook around the location. A public walk way/alleyTalk to people there, organise filming permissions.

Public property –no permission needed.

Identify the equipment you need to use. My own camera.Examine and Identify any potential health and safety issues. (E.g. crowd numbers being controlled, being set up in a sensible location that does not block access points or that damages the environment or frightens livestock, any road/traffic issues etc.)

Public walk alley leads onto the main road potential hazard due to vehicles. Setting up in a sensible place that doesn’t disturb the public or block access routes, crowd numbers as well.

Check the positions of the sun and lighting conditions.

Natural lighting only available, will have to set up at the appropriate time.

Look for interesting shots and camera angles. Many shot opportunities available; Mid shot, long shots, close ups, full body shot.

Check the electricity supply. Battery powered camera charger for use.

3rd Location – Henley-on-Thames Train station

Action Point CommentsLook around the location. Surrounding train commuters, rail way nearby.Talk to people there, organise filming permissions.

The outside open to all, potential permission needed due to ensuring safety is prioritised.

Identify the equipment you need to use. My own battery powered camera.Examine and Identify any potential health and safety issues. (E.g. crowd numbers being controlled, being set up in a sensible location that does not block access points or that damages the environment or frightens livestock, any road/traffic issues etc.)

I will have to set up in a place that doesn’t obstruct passengers, crowd is bound to be large, could potentially be of risk due to surroundings.

Check the positions of the sun and lighting conditions.

Only natural lighting is available here.

Look for interesting shots and camera angles. Some, far less than the alley I will have to be more aware of my surroundings as this could affect the quality of shots.

Check the electricity supply. Battery power needed.Check the nearby car parking/transport routes. Transport is not needed, model lives local but

there is consistent flow of traffic, mostly trains. Is the location suitable for production? Concluding No, it isn’t ideal if I want to get the

best quality photo’s as there are too many surrounding potential hazards.

I have chosen to do my photo shoot in the Rotherfield photography studio as two of my chosen models go to my college so this will be convenient. The professional lighting in the studio will contribute towards successful shots. I have also chosen to take photographs in the local alley/ pathway in Tilehurst, as the alley provides good shots as well as the set being creditable and ideal, because graffiti is something that can be associated with my Genre of Rnb & Hip Hop.

Another ideal place to produce certain images would be the studio as it is of convenience to some of my models. I have considered the health and safety issues and I have concluded that there is scarcely any danger hazards in the photography studio, however I will have to be cautious when carrying out my photo shoot in my local pathway as there are several safety issues I will have to bear this in mind, many good shots and angles available in both locations, being convenient for my models as both attend the college, the other model lives local to me so that is of most convenience to him.
