The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands is a leader in youth development on the local and national level. We are transforming our community by providing youth with impactful, fun and educational opportunities in a safe environment. Juana is currently applying to top schools locally and out of state to find the perfect fit as
she heads into her freshman year of college this fall.
Inspired by the doctors who treated her brother’s brittle bone disease, she will be on the pre-med track and
hopes to become a surgeon one day.
A current scholarship recipient in his senior year at University of Nebraska at Omaha, Jorge is a business major with a GPA of 3.5. He participated in an internship at First National Bank where he worked in HR, retirement plan services, and investment services. He plans to pursue an MBA after graduation.
A freshman at Wartburg College majoring in Psychology, Lorna completed her first semester with a 3.67 GPA. She was recognized by the Wartburg faculty as a student leader on campus, a great honor for a first year student. An active student, Lorna competes on the bowling team and takes part in volunteer work on campus.
A recent Missouri Western University graduate, Asya is currently pursuing her Master’s in Public Administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. As a student at Missouri Western, Asya was president of the Black Student Government organization, a residential assistant, and a mentor to many students on campus including other Boys & Girls Club alumni.
The Club scholarship program helped Paige earn a degree in Elementary Education from the College of Saint Mary back in 2017. She is currently in her second year of teaching third grade at an elementary school 10 min away from her North Omaha Boys & Girls Club.

On August 13, 2018, BGCM, Florence Elementary and Omaha Public Schools (OPS) opened a brand new Howard L. Hawks Florence Boys & Girls Club attached to Florence Elementary School. The Club honors Howard L. Hawks, a long-time Boys & Girls Club supporters who has been instrumental in the success of the Clubs. The Florence Club is a state of the art facility that has 11,000 square-feet of dedicated Club space for members. The Club has a shared secure entry for both
the Club and the school, space for younger members, a teen center, a learning center with computers and an innovation lab for STEM programming. Through the partnership with the school, members will have access to an additional 9,500 square feet of shared space including a gym, cafeteria and library. The partnership between BGCM and OPS helps provide much needed programming to deserving youth of the historic Florence community.

On August 9, 2018, BGCM, in close partnership with Millard Public Schools, opened a new Club attached to Millard Central Middle School. The Millard Central Club is the first of its kind in the Millard Public Schools district. This project represents a unique school-club partnership, adding a Club to the existing school and connecting youth to hope and opportunity.
The Millard Club has over 14,000 square-feet of dedicated space for members. The Club has a shared secure entry for both the Club and the school, space for younger members, a teen center, a learning center with computers, an innovation lab for STEM programming and a multi-purpose gym that can be used for flying drones or a basketball game. The Millard Central Club will serve up to 350 youth per day.

On May 17, 2018, BGCM, in partnership with Omaha Public Schools and Bryan Middle School, broke ground on a 14,000 sq. ft. Boys & Girls Club facility which will be attached to Bryan Middle School. The Henry Davis Boys & Girls Club will open in August of 2019 and will serve 300 members per day. The proven Clubs & school concept will remove transportation barriers, give students a safe and fun place to go when not in school, and provide working families with affordable and quality after-school programming all year long.
The $3.8 million project will have a 1,900 square-foot teen center and a 1,650 square foot tween/youth center. Other new areas will include a new gym, Innovation Center and outdoor patio. The Club addition will also give Bryan Middle School an updated focal point to the front of the school. The Club and school will share 36,500 square feet of community spaces including a gym, locker rooms, circulation/hallways, cafeteria, auditorium and swimming pool.
BGCM and Westside Community Schools broke ground on May 8, 2018, at Westbrook Elementary for the construction of the new Westside Boys & Girls Club. Students, staff, parents, community members and invited guests celebrated the ongoing partnership and investment in the community’s future – our youth. The event honored the Hawkins Family, for whom the new Club will be named after, for their long-time commitment to the success and growth of the Clubs.The 15,000 sq. ft. state of the art facility will serve 250 members per day. Construction will begin at the conclusion of the school year and is slated to open on the first day of school in August of 2019. The new Club
will be built on the south end of the school. Members will continue attending the current Westside Club located on the north end while the new Club is being constructed.“Our afterschool program at Westbrook Elementary will have a newly built facility that will be safe, fun and equipped with a state of the art Innovation Center that will have the latest and greatest technology, including a drone obstacle course. This center will also be available to the school during school hours. Our partnership will provide opportunities to assist youth in being successful academically and socially,” said Ivan Gilreath, President & CEO of BGCM.

On January 2, 2018, 250 members of the community gathered at the Dundee Theater to watch the Oscar nominated animated shorts and learn more about how the Clubs help youth. Guest watched the films and participated in a panel discussion led by teen Club members and Film Streams’ education director. Afterwards, everyone was invited to a delicious after-party catered by Kitchen Table.Thank you to the honorary co-chairs, Carmelita &
Timothy Christian and Denise & Hobson Powell, for helping to make the event a great success. On March 31, 2018, 250 community supporters attended the March Madnezz fundraiser in Council Bluffs and raised over $50,000 in support of Iowa Clubs. Attendees enjoyed food and beer while watching the NCAA March Madness final four games. The event included a raffle, silent auction, and live auction. A special thank you to honorary chairs, the Hoovestol Family, for making March Madnezz a great success. “The Clubs truly make a direct impact on our youth, help build a better community, and develop tomorrow’s leaders. We are proud to say we support the Clubs,” said Hannah Heit.

On June 1, 2018, more than 500 patrons in tropical colors and Hawaiian print attended BGCM’s largest annual fundraising event, On the Road to Paradise. The Hawaiian style celebration took place at the new Marriott Downtown at the Capitol District and the venue was decorated with fresh tropical flowers throughout. Every attendee was greeted by Club kids and presented with a flower lei upon arrivial.The evening started with a patron party on the rooftop pool where patrons enjoyed signature drinks and live traditional Hawaiian music. After the tiki bar cocktail hour, emcee, Jennifer Griswald from KMTV 3 News Now, welcomed guests to the event and kicked off the luau style dinner with entertainment featuring hula dancing by Club members. Top moments from the evening
included a winning speech from Youth of the Year, Teiah Wells, who received a standing ovation for her story of overcoming the pressures of social media, her peers, and her circumstances to focus on her goals and be the first in her family to attend college. The luau concluded with dancing and music by Bobby & The Aristocats.The event was a great success thanks to honorary co-chairs, Cindy & Mogens Bay and Annette & Paul Smith, along with event chairs, Tammi Bishop and B Gratton.
