CELEBRATION T IME AT LOCHINVAR PUBLIC SCHOOL ! Our students and staff have worked exceptionally well this term, engaging in a

number of exciting learning opportunities. Below is a recount from each class detailing

some of the wonderful things that happen on a daily basis here at Lochinvar Public

School. Together we strive always to be respectful, responsible and proud learners.

Terrific effort team!

CHANGES TO STAFF DEVELOPMENT D AY TERM 3 In Term 3 students will start back at school on Monday 18th July. Usually the first

day of Term 3 is a staff development day however we have been lucky enough to

secure training for staff in the 7 Steps to Writing Success program. This training will

occur on Monday 25th July which means that school will be closed on this day.

Please ensure you add this date to your calendar.

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH KH KH have had an amazing term with students

continuing to gain self-confidence and develop their

academic understandings. Students have been

working to improve their recall of sounds and

identify basic sight words which are important in

assisting with early reading and writing skills. During guided reading activities students are beginning to read with

more independence and love engaging in a variety of literacy group activities during morning groups. Students

have enjoyed reading ‘The Rainbow Fish’ and ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ in class and have used these texts as

a stimulus for their independent writing and their arts and craft. In mathematics, the students have been learning

to play a new game called ‘Buzz’. This game enables the students to consolidate their knowledge of number

counting concepts such as counting forwards and counting backwards. Their enthusiasm when engaged in this

activity has been infectious and a delight to see! This term the students have been learning about the weather in

science with Miss Travis. Our whole class assembly item was based around this theme. The children loved

performing ‘Drip Drop’ and learning to sign, whilst singing ‘I Can Sing a Rainbow’. Each student’s hand was used

to contribute to our hands rainbow backdrop. Students have

been working to uphold our PBL Core Values of respect,

responsibility and pride both individually and as a whole class.

Many students have been receiving their tenth ‘Gotcha’ and as a

whole class we are getting close to our set leaf target on our

‘Cooperation Tree’. Mrs Clark and I are extremely proud of each

student’s achievements and can’t wait to begin the learning

journey with KH as we enter into the second semester.

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH KM Term 2 has been another busy one in KM with

Gotchas flying out the door. This term, students

have started independent writing where they

implement the skills that they have learned in

guided writing sessions and utilise the tools around

the room to construct their own sentences based on

shared experiences. Students are enjoying the

opportunity to write their own sentences. Students

have also enjoyed creating their own artworks

based on directed drawing lessons. They have drawn their own

self-portraits and penguins living in the Antarctic. Make sure you come to

the classroom to check out KM’s budding artists.

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH 1 /2M In Celebration of NAIDOC Week, 1/2M has been investigating

the Aboriginal culture and

the tools traditional

aboriginal people used.

All students really

enjoyed weaving baskets

that would be used by traditional aboriginal people when

carrying food. I am very proud of my student’s

achievements this term and look forward to a fun and full

term 3.

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH 1 /2H

Roll Up Roll Up to the hardest working

class in town! Many crazy circus acts

have happened this term and we have all

walked the tricky tightrope to the end of

term 2. A highlight this term has to be our

Circus Spelling Groups and the varied ways in which students have displayed their understanding

and interacted with each other, even in their pyjamas! Students have enjoyed computer

publishing, sound searching, chalk mats, spelling ping pong and group graffiti pages. Becoming

descriptive detectives has improved our sentence writing and

has helped us become engaged and reflective learners. As a

class we have loved

using the interactive

learning space in the

library each week and

enabling each student

to work in a way that

they feel comfortable is amazing. What a great term 2,

happy holidays. Mrs Harris.

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH 4 /5 Term 2 certainly has been a busy one for 4/5!

We have been reading a novel called Grimsdon

by Deborah Abela and most of our work in

English has been based on this book. In maths,

we’ve been learning about 3D objects, mass,

chance, data and time. We have created some

fabulous artworks of city silhouettes, 3D hands

and our favourite, the sweet fish who quickly becomes ferocious! In PE, we’ve definitely improved

our leaping, sprinting and vertical jumping skills. CAPA group rotations have continued in term 2

and have been a great chance for us to have a go at dance, origami, boot camp and construction.

We have loved having many visits from teachers and students from RTHS: we’ve participated in

careers workshops, dance and music sessions and rugby league and soccer development clinics.

Bring on term 3!

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH YEAR 3

Year 3 have had another fabulous term. Despite the weather, we enjoyed the athletics carnival and loved participating in new sporting activities including discus, long jump and shot put. This term, we have been reading the book “Charlotte’s Web”. It has brought much laughter to our classroom and prompted some interesting thinking about whether animals really can talk. Year 3 have found

persuasive writing exciting and have continuously presented some creative and strong ideas to convince our readers. We have worked well in pairs and groups to perform chance experiments in Maths sessions and have enjoyed discussing the results. Presenting our item the “Sid Shuffle” to the whole school was definitely a highlight this term. Each of us displayed dedication towards practising the dance and gave our absolute best on the actual day. Year 3 had great fun during today’s NAIDOC Day celebrations and demonstrated respect, responsibility and pride towards all teachers and adults. We are keen to re-commence school in term 3 so once again we can work hard to develop our learning, while having fun with out friends. Miss Russell

“RECOGNITION OF 10 GOTCHA WEEK 6 - 10”

CELEBRATING TERM 2 W ITH 5 /6 Well here we are halfway through the year at the end of a

very busy and productive Term 2. We started the term

with a very reverent Anzac Day Service on day one of the

term. I must also say a special thankyou to the students

from the class who so capably represented our school

and local community Anzac Services, taking time out of

their holidays, to show their respect. Well Done. This was followed by the school leadership team partici-

pating in the GRIP Leadership conference at the University of Newcastle in May. The students learned a

great deal, saw how other school leadership teams work and returned to school keen to implement some

of the thing they learned. The school Cross Country saw several student from the class go on to represent

at Zone and congratulations to Shianne who then went on to represent at regional level coming 7th In her

division. We have also had two students accepted to the Hunter region GATS Camp for Term Three and

have begun our unit of work on Gold in preparation for our excursion to Hill End in Term 3. Rutherford

Technology High School has visited to allow the student to have a

taste of some of the great programs they have to offer. The students

participated in a Creative and Performing Arts workshop, a Rugby

League and Football (Soccer Clinic) and we have travelled to the

RTHS to be part of the audience for their musical. At all these events

the students demonstrated the PBL core values of the school. We

have also complete work in class on improving our writing and

becoming more able to use figurative language in our writing with

some excellent results. As I said, a very busy term. Enjoy the holidays

and be ready for Term 3
