This manuscript provides a comprehensive volcanologic and metallogenic reconstruction of a 2.7 billion year old volcanic complex in the Lake Superior region of the Canadian Shield. Through detailed geologic mapping in the region of a past-producing zinc-copper sulphide mine, we documented the variation of volcanic activity through time and how this formed the metallic mineral deposits. Using state-of-the-art analytical methods to determine the chemistry of the rocks, we related this ancient system to modern volcanic environments on the ocean floor. These results can be used to evaluate the economic potential of other ancient volcanic terranes.
