    London Bridge is a bridge between the City of London andSouthwark in London, U.K., over the River Thames. Situatedbetween Cannon Street Railway Bridge and Tower Bridge, it forms

    the western end of the Pool of London. On the south side of thebridge are Southwark Cathedral and London Bridge station; on

    the north side are the Monument to the Great Fire of London and

    Monument tube station.

    The MonumentThis tall tower commemorates theGreat Fire of London which started

    in Pudding Lane on 2ndSeptember 1666 and raged forseveral days devastating most ofthe city. 13,000 houses were

    destroyed but remarkably onlyfour people were killed, new lawswere rushed through Parliamentrequiring the city to be rebuiltusing stone and brick. The tower

    has no lift and with nearly fourhundred steps it is not for the fainthearted, offering spectacular viewsonce you have climbed the

    Monument.
