EVENT SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL

We invite you to embrace the exciting opportunity to align with a new, unique event as Partner, Main Sponsor, Sponsor to help us sow seeds for social responsibility with the

project “This is not a plate”

From the 8th to the 18th of August 2012

Our mission is to advance universal education - literacy with

mindfulness - through art, to sow seeds for social responsibility.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT The plate as metaphor narrative “The plate is unsurpassable as a metaphor for a universal symbol of human rights, unity, peace, social responsibility and a multitude of cultural, socio-philosophical, political and humanitarian meanings that connect deeply with humanity. When combined with the same words that define our identity and translated in 35 languages of the world; painted with the love of heritage as much as any loved recipe, and placed on a specially welcoming table to be shared in intimacy and friendship with others, you have a celebration of culture, heritage and language in an unmistakably tangible, universally shared and moving way. How we get to the metaphorical dinner party is through the story of man on planet earth, cause and effect, the elements of water, air, earth and fire, sustainability, diversity and human rights. For the ceramic plate that is ‘invented’ by man all over our planet, and like the food we put on it, it belongs to all humanity, without exception. To me these elements represent a life force of such magnitude that I felt compelled to envelop them in membrane: the element that defines life. And in doing so the work assumed an innately organic dimension simultaneously unsettling and attractive, seductive and nurturing, political and existentially peaceful; a celebration of civilized humanity.” Sacha Mullins, MovingUniverse conceptual artist TINAP

Moving Universe together with St. Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace are organizing a special 10 days event A preview to be held during the 2012 London Olympics Games period.

This is Not a Plate: Your heritage. Your language. Your culture. St Ethelburga’s is one of the smallest churches in the City of London. This is relevant because of the remarkable contradiction in the breadth and depth of the work that goes on there: the church, itself a place brought to ruins by conflict, has been rebuilt and provides an essential resource to work with those people affected by conflict; houses the St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace.

It is in this evocative location that Moving Universe has been invited, by the Centre for Reconciliation and Peace to share their installation for a 10 days event with the local City of London community and visitors from afar because it is so closely aligned with their work.

“This is not a Plate” will transform St. Ethelburga’s into 4 interconnected spaces covered and bound by membrane like textile providing tunnel access between the spaces.

The Green Room will be fully functional To entertain our guests and give full information about Moving Universe’s mission, To engage interest for future collaboration in the UK and internationally. The four areas explore:

• the environment and its elements: fire, water, earth, air,

• the substance of ceramics, cause and effect;

• human rights and diversity; the metaphorical, 35 language, multicultural dinner party;

• cause and effect. Visitors will be encouraged to touch everything, to ask questions, to be entertained and provoked by the 1 minute films; reminded of their heritage they will be invited to show their best manners during the metaphorical sit down dinner party; they will be offered a taste of a guided contemplative moment, they will be invited to reflect on their part in the cause and effect impact of their life on our lovely planet earth.

Area three of the installation’s metaphorical dinner party in, MiC, Faenza The guided tour through the installation offers a transformational experience in the tangible understanding that human rights and responsibilities belong to everyone without exception. Our Mission is to sow seeds for social responsibility: as past experience has shown, visitors want to return to dwell in that magical nurturing space of peace again. Because the installation, “This is not a Plate”, strays far from the unemotional prospect of a detached visit to a museum and fires the senses into celebrating the dance of life through heuristic art.

Why does Moving Universe exist? "All learning has an emotional base."-- Plato

“We all have a right to learning – We have a responsibility not to leave anyone behind.” – Moving Universe.

Our vision is of more peaceful, emotionally intelligent and tolerant communities made up of people who are learned enough to be able to celebrate diversity and see interdependent connections to bridge divisions that separate communities so that people can live peacefully together striving for each other’s well being and happiness.

Our mission is to advance universal education - literacy with mindfulness - through art, to sow seeds for social responsibility.

Education, the gateway to life through Reading wRiting and aRithmetic skills, affectionately known as the three Rs, has enabled the basis for widespread literacy. But in today’s world, society lacks the educational tools to provide for rounded growth of the human being that prepares us for the social challenges ahead.

Universal education, a concept used by peace leaders like Mahatma Ghandi, Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama and others, provides the necessary tools. Foremost, it is secular, and Moving Universe has informed it by the 3aRs: auxiliary Remembering, Reasoning and Responsibility skills combined with the four learning objectives that consolidate social and emotional learning (mindfulness) i.e. learning to know, learning to do, learning to be and learning to live with each other. We sow seeds for social responsibility through art.

Moving Universe works through art because its language is universal, non discriminatory and shared by humanity. Art in all its forms, used to advance education, can open and inform the heart and mind and soften it, to resolve divisions of conflict, culture and religion and celebrate humanity and our responsible growth and co-existence in a global society.

Through our art projects, we work directly with communities, including people facing socio-cultural states of inertia, indifference, intolerance, fear, anger and ignorance.

When people engage emotionally in activities, they create personal conditions to really see and listen to each other. Such a predisposition provides a fertile environment for personal growth. Guided presentation of art can lead to a personal awakening and attention building. Moving

Universe is dedicated to advance the learning of reflective practices in order to reduce suffering, eliminate stress, promote well being, increase attention and academic performance and instill social responsibility.

We implement this vision and mission through a strategy of integrated art productions and didactic initiatives including dialogues and publications:

• The Moving Universe International Art for Humanity Platform, • The Moving Universe International Educator Formation Initiative, • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, • Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Mindfulness In and Out of the Classroom, • The Music Drama • Humanities, Social Sciences • Science Initiatives • and as a future coordinator of the International Educators Good Practice and Contemplative

Studies.

The World Health Organisation recommends Life Skills as essential education objectives in schools. Moving Universe’s 3aRs, auxiliary remembering, reasoning and responsibility skills, embrace this vision and add value to it by working for society as a whole to deliver tangible empowerments to people of all backgrounds, age and nationality, enabling them to live and perform better.

The social issues that are evident in communities can be addressed with insight and tolerance and genuine transformative change can happen. Our work builds resilience to enable people and communities to withstand the changes that can cause divisions. Our work in education, art and mindfulness facilitates socially responsible expression that, through the waterfall effect, multiplies in society. Its goal is the understanding of the present world, of which one of the imperatives is the overarching unity of knowledge, through the knowledge of self.

Once learned, people take the skills they have acquired and apply them in their own local situations.

What they say about us

“This is not a Plate” is perhaps the most original and stimulating project I have ever seen regarding the importance of languages among people. I am proud that Italian ceramics are the bearers of the

messages in this work for education, peace and unity in the world”

Massimiliano Smerghetto, Culture Councilor, Venice Council

“It is remarkable how effective This is not a Plate installation is in engaging the participation and interaction of visitors. In particular I was struck by young people' s reactions, students and others in front of the evocative images painted on plates, and therefore I was fascinated by the content of the

poetry as a guide.”

Massimo Isola, Deputy Mayor and Culture Councilor, Faenza Council

“I particularly love this poetry since it refers to the Tibetan language: it presents a perfect example that we all relate to, of a language at risk of extinction that is a tragedy for both the nation and the

people.”

Claudio Cardelli, President Association Italia-Tibet

“The experience was so positive that it became a topic of conversation among colleagues as much as individual classes with pupils. It would be wonderful if everyone could participate”

Maria Grazia Valli, Teacher, Faenza.

“We came out with a burning curiosity to know more about each other”

Student, Rimini

What is distinctive about our organisation? The education through art programmes we deliver are transdisciplinary with an international emphasis.

Our work targets the general public; we understand the general public as decision-making individuals whose actions make a difference. The general public includes children and parents and their parents covering all sectors of society.

We create opportunities for public and educators to experience mindfulness with their class communities in our installation spaces. The public become protagonists of the art-work.

We provide new opportunities for established artists to acknowledge and work alongside emerging artists who, together, put their art in the service of humankind.

We collaborate with schools and Universities on projects and motivate learning and international exchange. We build cross sector relationships internationally to sow seeds for mindfulness and learning empowerments.

In addition to this, we focus on taking our work to a wider community; we work with people who are marginalised in open and closed situations with carers and in homes for the elderly, hospices, detention centres.

We are supporting the growth and development of an international community of people who will be able to deliver effective 3aRs building in their own localities because we will have delivered the training and skills facilitation that means individuals can realise sustainable, creative, good practice and peaceful outcomes in their own situations.

Our organisation is founded on the charter of Human Rights and this informs our values. In sum, these demonstrate:

• That the work we do is for the public good recognising the need to propagate human rights of health, dignity, security, education, to live in the spirit of brother and sisterhood, to equal treatment no matter what religion, race, colour or sex, to freedom of speech, of fair treatment by the law

• That the integrity of humankind and compassion for others underlies our actions in the production and delivery of art and education projects

• That our work must be based on genuine communication and respect between people and this requires a firm foundation of practised skills in self-observation and as a result the habit of tolerance while listening and understanding the ‘other’. This is especially relevant in the field of education, equal treatment of people and freedom of speech.

• That we must understand the varying ways violence can be brought about and felt, in art, media, government and society and that we must be empowered to actively choose to refuse it.

• That we are all responsible for our actions and therefore contribute to the realisation of a peaceful way of living together.

Through productions of art we are able to work in different environments – there is an equal place for our skills in the business, education and leisure worlds that promote community cohesion.

Our skills can be used at all levels – at the local, with individuals and communities, with organisations working at community level, with local authorities’ services, to private sector companies to improve productivity and reduce stress, to national and international actors managing education, health, commerce and arts programs.
