Growing up in the park system I always had somewhere to go. When your parents don’t

have money you have to be glad that there is still a place for you somewhere.

Growing up, we would celebrate my mother's 4th of July birthday at El Dorado Park. I always think of those days when I

drive by or visit the park today. The pond, the birds, the smell of the eucalyptus

trees always make me smile :)

I enjoy the beach every day during my runs. It is my connection to nature, and I

use the time to contemplate, reflect, problem solve and exercise outdoors.

The first time I discovered a Recreation Center and saw all the fun stuff. For

FREE! mind blown.

My first kiss was at Veterans Park : )

I recall the first time a player I coached successfully served a volleyball over the net and she cried and hugged me. I remember the way a mom tearfully

hugged her son when he crossed the finish line at the Kids Run at the LB Marathon and because of a PRM

program. I remember the joy on kids faces when they perform for their parents at a camp.

One of my favorite memories is at Somerset Park hosting

family gatherings and volleyball games.

One of my favorite memories at a Long Beach park was the summer Deforest Park jamboree in about 2001, where

there were various sport competitions held between youth of different north-side LB parks all in one day. The staff made sure it was fun-filled from start to finish, it

was so enjoyable and popular back then,

When I first began working at a youth sports official, I recall a basketball game that I was officiating. The score was 4 to 4 entering the 2nd half, after 8 minutes of terrible basketball

skills on display and haphazard coaching, the score was deadlocked at 4 each. The game went into overtime and one team suddenly took a commanding 1-pt lead. The other team roared back and score a point of their own to tie the game.

While the participants were not very skilled, they had a lot of heart. The game ended after the 3rd overtime and one of the young players came up to us and told us how much fun they

had and thanked us for being referees.Photographing All City

Beach Day-the excitement in the children's eyes was

contagious.

Assistance in prevention of an individual from jumping off

the 2nd Street bridge. It probably had the most impact

and relief in knowing the individual was able to get the

help needed without any tragedy.

Watching the wildlife around Alamitos Bay as I am working...just had a dolphin come up to us as we were preparing for the boat

auction.

Rescuing an injured Pelican on 4th of July Celebration at Marine Stadium. When I drove up, the music stopped. Not a sound as I pulled out my net, the pelican was on the rocks in a precarious area, I

was unbalanced and wobbling as I brought up my net slowly and then I brought the net down and caught it

safely-the band started playing and the crowed cheered! It was amazing feeling : )

I remember the tears, well wishes and videos staff created each time I left for a new role at a different program

or site only to fall in love with my assignment and work family all over

again.

My all-time favorite memory is The Lion King Family Night at Hudson. We

nailed the Broadway inspired look with quality costumes and facepaint. We worked on set design, lighting, rehearsals, choreography all year

long!I think a memory for me is growing up in the

park I work at I have seen generations of families come through my park. Girls that I

coached when I first started working are now bringing their children to the parks to play the sports. It just goes to show how connected we all are and what an impact I may have made

seeing as they still travel from a different area of Long Beach to come to my site.

The interactions I have with my Senior participants. Specifically,

taking a group of Seniors to Dodger Stadium to watch our 99 year

participant throw out the first pitch!
