Youth Sports Fall 2017
FUNDAMENTALS: This class helps children learn the fundamentals of soccer in a noncompetitive setting.
Dribbling, passing, shooting and kicking will all be emphasized with good sportsmanship included. Basic
Skills are taught through games, drills and fun! Coached by 5 Star Sports. Shin guards, cleats and soccer
ball are recommended.

The Art of Fencing
This class helps develop balance and improve concentration while staying fit. Our fun and
informative fencing classes teach students the basics from beginner to expert. Students can
continue to improve by signing up for multiple classes. Safety is stressed and each participant
handles a foil in every session. Students will learn moves and strategies that create the
foundation for their fencing game. Each class features instructions and competition.
Class is instructed by Vladimir Lapshin. All equipment provided.

The Lincolnshire Club
Fall 2017 Session I – Tennis Programs
Introductory Program: These classes will allow you to try out the tennis program without becoming a club
member. Classes are taught by United States Professional Tennis Association
(USPTA) instructors.
Quick Start Tots: The class focuses on learning tennis skills and improving social/group interaction.
(5 and under) The parent accompanies the child on the court so both parent and Pro help the
student have fun and learn in a relaxed atmosphere.
Pee Wee Tennis: An introductory junior program. Basic hand-eye coordination, stroke
(ages 5-7) development for the forehand and backhand ground strokes utilizing the Quick
Start teaching format.
Junior Development: A great program for those 8-13 years old who are just starting tennis. Emphasis
(ages 8-13) will be placed on form and control. Students will be introduced to ground
strokes, volleys and serves utilizing the Quick Start teaching format.
High School Program: Designed for those students wishing to learn tennis or improve their playing skills
in order to make their high school team or better themselves. Drills are
used to imitate competitive game situations and improve their strokes.

Engineering for Kids
Junior STEM Club (Grades K-2nd)
While attending the STEM Club, students will be able to sample different fields of engineering and
learn how to apply the Engineering Design Process to solve problems and build exciting
machines! Our programs prepare students for rigorous study and self-driven exploration by
introducing them to concepts in science, technology, engineering and mathematics through
interactive experimentation. We have designed our curriculum around the field of engineers and
scientists, allowing students to tackle challenges using an understanding of principle concepts but
leaving ample room for their individual creativity.
Session 1 – 6 weeks: Junior LEGO® WeDo™ Robotics Engineering: Amazing Mechanism
This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. Using LEGO®
bricks, students build mechanisms such as a dancing bird, a drumming monkey, and more. They
also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer. All equipment
provided.
Session 2 – 6 weeks: Junior Aerospace Engineering
The Junior Aerospace Engineering classes introduce our youngest engineers to fundamental
concepts of aircraft and spacecraft design. Through open and focused exploration, students
explore and construct airplanes, rockets, hot air balloons, and more. All equipment provided.

Session 2 – 6 weeks: Apprentice Aerospace Engineering
During the Aerospace Engineering classes, students use the Engineering Design Process to design,
create, test, and refine a variety of flying machines. Students will create and launch bottle rockets
and construct a shock absorbing system designed to protect two marshmallow astronauts in a lunar
vehicle. All equipment provided.

We will be working on expanding your child’s mind while strengthening their body with our After
School Yoga classes. Your children will learn breathing techniques, balancing poses, and even
meditation techniques to gain a deeper understanding of the physical and physiological aspects of

Chess Classes
CheckMates Chess Academy focuses on teaching students of ALL SKILL LEVELS.
Our unique curriculum makes learning chess fun and classes entertaining. For kids, chess is a game,
an educational tool, and a great way to bond with family! We invite your children to enjoy this
timeless game with us. We will be exploring chess tactics such as thinking ahead, correct
positioning, and controlling the board while playing many chess related games like “Take Me” and
“Crazy Queen!” Students will learn new strategies as well as ways to apply them to their everyday
lives. Studies have shown that skills like concentrating, focusing, and weighing consequences are
very beneficial for kids to learn, especially in a fun game like chess. The last day of class we will be
having a intra-class tournament, complete with PRIZES for all those who participate!

Safe Sitter Babysitting Class
Our babysitting program, sponsored by Safe Sitter, is sure to get your teen on the right track
to become a babysitter. Participants will learn how to care for a choking infant or child, basic
first aid, personal safety for the babysitter, injury prevention, how to care for children,
preventing problem behavior, behavior management, ethics and babysitting as a business.
Program includes a babysitting manual and a completion card.
Participants should bring a baby-sized doll and lunch to class.

“It’s a book” - the great debate. Come to Family Book Club to explore the ways to get
information and enjoy reading in the 21st century. Do you prefer to read a physical book or use a
device to read? You do not have to read a book ahead of time, just come prepared to defend your
favorite reading style. Be prepared to enjoy several humorous picture books and participate in
activities around this popular 21st century conversation.
We hope to see you on September 25th at 6:15-8:00 p.m. Grab a new friend to bring with you to
join us for our latest reading adventure.

Family Book Club
Family Programs
Come visit with live birds of the night. Learn about their unique adaptations that
make them highly effective nighttime predators. After the presentation, you may choose to
take a guided walk through the Reed-Turner Woodland and experience this wild preserve
as the nocturnal animals do. Watch and listen for the signs of life after dark. Come back to
the Nature Center for a campfire and snacks.
This is a family event for ages 6 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress
for the weather and bring flashlights. In the event of in-
clement weather the presentation will be indoors, but
the walk and campfire will be cancelled.

On Sunday, December 10th, Santa will be at the Reed-
Turner Woodland Nature Preserve from 1:00-3:00 pm.
Boys and girls - be sure to bring your wish list because
Santa is looking forward to seeing you and to hear
about all your wishes.
Even though there is no charge for this event, Santa is
asking everyone to bring an unwrapped gift for a boy or
girl that will be delivered to the “Toys for Tots”
program.
We look forward to seeing all of you for this special

A Course Teaching Female Assault Survival Tactics
