Located in Long Island City, the Standard

Motor Products (SMP) Building combines spa-

cious modern design and authentic industrial

origins. Since 1919, this iconic building has

been the outpost for makers, visionaries and

industrial innovators who helped to shape

this city and the world. Originally home to the

Karpen Furniture Factory, this historic light-

filled space is now a modern, multi-tenant

    commercial office building where creators

and innovators still do their best work. A

recent $14 million renovation revitalized the

lobby, updated the facade and increased en-

ergy efficiency, earning an EnergyStar certifi-

    cation. Today, SMP blends turn-of-the-century

charm with modern amenities, including a

lobby showcasing local artists and a one-acre

rooftop farm recognized for green innovation.

  • This is home to visionary business-

    es across tech, media, architecture

    and entertainment and is attracting

    a growing artistic and intellectual

    community.

Bring your best ideas into the light.

SMP is the creative headquarters for

    original thinkers and modern luminar-

ies who look out at the world and see

    only possibilities. Industrial-inspired

    suites span 500-20,000 square

feet and feature soaring 12-14 foot

    ceilings and enormous, light-filled

windows with sweeping views of Mid-

    town and downtown Manhattan. SMP

is a blank canvas for every stroke

of inspiration: a luminous space to

    create and innovate.

#8EXPAN-SIONAs local development booms, so does local infrastructure. The East Side Access project is creating faster connections between Long Island City and Manhattan with a new 8-track terminal and con-course below Grand Central Station. Slat-ed to open in 2022, it will serve 160,000 commuters per day.#4PROGRES-SION
