Introduction This newsletter is one in a series intended to keep the community informed about the construction of the Gas Conditioning Plant (GCP) at Esso’s existing Longford facilities near Sale in south eastern Victoria, outlining progress to date and highlighting key upcoming activities. Background The GCP is being constructed on private land already occupied by Esso, zoned for industrial use and adjacent to the existing Longford facilities. Over Dimensional Loads In December 2014, several over-dimensional loads were safely transported from Esso’s Barry Beach Marine Terminal to the GCP construction site. A number of the larger loads were transported at night to minimise disruption to other road users along the South Gippsland Highway. Commencing in February 2015 through to July 2015 a number of over-dimensional loads will be transported to the construction site from Morwell, where some of the equipment is being assembled. The equipment will mostly be transported at night to minimise inconvenience to other road users. Many months of planning has gone into moving this equipment safely, including consultation with the relevant authorities and applying for permits from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. IntroductionThis newsletter is one in a series intended to keep the community informed about the construction of the Gas Conditioning Plant (GCP) at Esso’s existing Longford facilities near Sale in south eastern Victoria, outlining progress to date and highlighting key upcoming activities.

BackgroundThe GCP is being constructed on private land already occupied by Esso, zoned for industrial use and adjacent to the existing Longford facilities. The GCP will process gas associated with the largest domestic gas development on Australia’s eastern seaboard, the multi-billion dollar Kipper Tuna Turrum (KTT)1 Project.

Progress to Date• Detailed engineering and design nearing completion• Most large process vessels and other major

equipment items transported to site• Material warehouse and tool stores constructed• Modification works within existing site largely

completed• Glycol truck loading facility progressed• Tank fabrication and structural steel erection

commenced• Underground pipe work installation and pressure

testing ongoing• Offsite pre-assembly of equipment and pipe racks

commenced

1 The Gas Conditioning Plant is being developed by Esso Australia as part of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture in which Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd (EARPL) and BHP Billiton Petroleum (Bass Strait) Pty Ltd each have a 50 percent interest. The Turrum and Tuna developments are also part of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture. The Kipper joint venture participants are Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd (32.5% and Operator), BHP Billiton Petroleum (Bass Strait) Pty Ltd (32.5%) and Santos Limited (35%).

Key Upcoming Activities (next 6 months)• Complete foundations and underground works

(drains, piping and electrical)• Installation of pressure vessels, process units,

turbines and pumps• Erect structural steel on site to support piping,

cables and process equipment• Transport of pre-assembled equipment and

buildings to site• Pipe work installation• Electrical and communication cable installation

Environmental Aspects of the Construction ActivityEsso is committed to achieving and maintaining excellence in environmental care throughout the construction of the GCP. Our aim is to continuously improve our environmental performance with the goal of minimising our environmental impact.Extensive ongoing efforts have been made to reuse and recycle waste to avoid disposal to landfill.Construction infrastructure and processes have been mobilised to minimise impact on Garretts Road.Stormwater is collected on the construction site and routed to a retention basin. This water is re-used where possible on site to suppress dust from the work site, haul roads and stock piles.

Supporting the CommunityIn December 2014, the project workforce swapped their usual work wear for pink work wear in support of The National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Contributing to the Local EconomyEsso has a strong track record of supporting contractors and suppliers in the region. • At its peak, construction of the GCP will require a

direct labour force in excess of 350 people and may involve other specialists and contractors as needed

• Several local companies have been engaged to support the GCP

• The majority of construction labour workforce will be sourced from within the local Gippsland region

Construction employment opportunities for the new GCP site are managed by CB&I, as the principal contractor. Refer to www.longfordgcp.com. All other enquiries to CBI should be forwarded to [email protected]
