looking in from the outside: developing your own windows of opportunities using social media
DESCRIPTION
As educational developers and trainers the focus of our work is on supporting others to learn and develop new skills. We do this in a variety of different ways from face to face to blended and distance learning. Increasingly technology is providing innovative ways to enhance teaching and learning and to engage learners. This may include the use of video, audio and images as well as Web 2.0 tools and social media. The potential to socially share this knowledge and to use technology to mediate this process is an important aspect of our own professional development. Shining a spotlight on how we can use social media to do this, I will share some of the key tools I have used and the impact they have had.TRANSCRIPT

Information saturation?

Humanity will survive information deluge
“The Information Age offers much to mankind, and I would like to think that we will rise to the challenges it presents. ”
But…

“It is vital to remember that information (in the sense of raw data) is not knowledge, that knowledge is not wisdom, and that wisdom is not foresight.
But information is the first essential step to all of these.

Such concerns are not new
“As long as the centuries continue to unfold, the number of books will grow continually, and one can predict that a time will come when it will be almost as difficult to learn anything from books as the direct study of
the whole universe. It will be almost as convenient to search for some bit of truth concealed in nature as it will be to find it hidden away in an immense multitude of
bound volumes.” Diderot 1755
