On Thursday 12th July one hundred and seventy students plus their parents, staff and Governors gathered in the sports hall for an enjoyable afternoon to celebrate the achievement of Lord Grey students. After a welcome from the Headteacher Jill Coughlan, Form prizes and Commendation prizes were awarded for each form in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. Members of the Student Council were also recognised for their valued work for the school. The students who had been nominated as the winners of the Subject prizes then received their prize books which have a commemorative inscription in them. It is hoped the students will keep these books for many years to remind them of their great achievement. We heard excellent speeches from Stephanie Painter and Andrew Roast (Year 11) who were listened to with great attention as they encouraged the students to get involved and take active steps to build their confidence and achievements. The music from Andrew Bond (who, not surprisingly, received the music prize for Year 10) and from the Saxophone Ensemble and the Junior Choir was superb. Madeleine Carrington, Chair of Governors, then congratulated the students and their parents and thanked everyone for coming and we then enjoyed some wonderful cakes and tea in the Dining Room. Congratulations to you if you received an award and thank you to all the staff and students who helped in the organisation of the event.

MK Youth ConferenceMK Youth ConferenceMK Youth ConferenceMK Youth Conference

On Monday 9th July 2007, members of the Student Council attended the Annual MK Youth Conference “What do you think?” at Wilton Hall, Bletchley. Below are comments from some of the students who attended the day. “The aim of the day was to produce information which will then be passed on to the MK Council on how we can improve Milton Keynes for young people. Some of the issues that came up were: Transport Leisure facilities Shopping Bullying And summer holiday activities During the day we attended two workshops which were of use to young people and included mental health, homelessness and sexual health. The whole day was very interesting with games to get us motivated.” Sarah Burrett, 10M—School Council Member

“I really enjoyed the conference on Monday 9th July because the workshops were really interesting and I loved learning about how you can make your life better and what you can do if you need to leave home for any reason. The sexual health session was quite good because the workers from Brook (in the city) came in and gave us a talk. If I am still in the student council next year, I hope I can attend this conference again.” Lauren Frost, 8K—School Council Member

“I really enjoyed the conference. It was good fun and we got to learn about different issues. We attended workshops, played games and met various people who we worked with later in the day. I really had a good time.” Nurlana Kerimli, 10F—School Council Member

Medication I am holding medication for some Lord Grey students. Medication such as inhalers and epipens are to be collected from me before Friday 20th July. Any mediation that has not been collected by this date will be destroyed. Toni Leather, School Nurse
