“What we’re doing is so new that every day is a surprise to me,” states Lorraine Meisner, co-founder and chief scientific officer of Cell Line Genetics. Dr. Meisner’s career and company are a testament to the fact that she has never been one to feel discouraged by what others say is impossible. Cell Line Genetics has established a reputation as a trusted provider of stem cell quality assurance services, including G-banded karyotyping, DNA fingerprinting, standard and quick fluorescence in situ hybridization, mycoplasma detection, and more. Dr. Meisner actively participates in the growth of the business while developing new products to expedite detection of early genetic changes in stem cell lines. She conducts research that identifies genetic changes associated with neoplastic development, and evaluates their significance. She also evaluates the causes and frequency of cytogenetic aberrations associated with abnormal somatic development resulting in birth defects. Dr. Meisner is also noted for her work in vitamin C-based anti-aging products. She and her colleague, Michael Schinitsky, patented a formulation that helps protect cells against sun- induced oxy radicals while also stimulating collagen production. This patent led to the Cellex- C line of anti-aging products. Subsequently, other patented products containing non-toxic natural ingredients were developed by Cell Line Genetics for the treatment of conditions such as acne, inflammatory rosacea, psoriasis and related chronic conditions. Looking toward the future, Dr. Meisner plans to remain involved in the exciting study of genetic changes in stem cells to better elucidate the significance and mechanisms involved. She also hopes to be active in developing other effective anti-aging products for the "Baby Boomer" generation. “What we’re doing is so new that every day is a surprise to me,”

states Lorraine Meisner, co-founder and chief scientific officer of

Cell Line Genetics. Dr. Meisner’s career and company are a

testament to the fact that she has never been one to feel

discouraged by what others say is impossible. Cell Line Genetics

has established a reputation as a trusted provider of stem cell

quality assurance services, including G-banded karyotyping, DNA

fingerprinting, standard and quick fluorescence in situ

hybridization, mycoplasma detection, and more. Dr. Meisner

actively participates in the growth of the business while

developing new products to expedite detection of early genetic changes in stem cell lines. She

conducts research that identifies genetic changes associated with neoplastic development, and

evaluates their significance. She also evaluates the causes and frequency of cytogenetic

aberrations associated with abnormal somatic development resulting in birth defects.

Dr. Meisner is also noted for her work in vitamin C-based anti-aging products. She and her

colleague, Michael Schinitsky, patented a formulation that helps protect cells against sun-

induced oxy radicals while also stimulating collagen production. This patent led to the Cellex-

C line of anti-aging products. Subsequently, other patented products containing non-toxic

natural ingredients were developed by Cell Line Genetics for the treatment of conditions

such as acne, inflammatory rosacea, psoriasis and related chronic conditions.

Looking toward the future, Dr. Meisner plans to remain involved in the exciting study of

genetic changes in stem cells to better elucidate the significance and mechanisms involved. She

also hopes to be active in developing other effective anti-aging products for the "Baby

Boomer" generation. Her words of wisdom to live by are: “You can do anything you want to

do if you try hard enough and long enough."

Q & A with Lorraine Meisner Q. What motivates you?

A. We have to give back. We are using the Earth’s resources and we have to put something back to make

the Earth support us.

Q. Did you ever consider pursuing a different career path or another profession?

A. I thought I was going to be a teacher. I love learning, and I went to the university and then I got

married. I then got my master’s degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago, and I became

interested in behavior that varied among people, and how much was environmental and how much was

genetic. It was then that I became interested in genetics.

Q. What lessons have you learned as a professional in your field?

A. You can’t stop working. What I’ve learned is that science moves very fast and you really have to work

hard to keep up. You also have to be skeptical, because not everything that’s glorious is good. You have

to distinguish what’s real and not real.

Q. What characteristics help to separate you from your competitors?

A. I always give more than I take. I think our customers get the most bang for their buck. We try to make

our service not only the most inexpensive as possible, but we give our customers as much information as

we can.

Q. What advice can you offer fellow members or others aspiring to work in your industry?

A. They should have a background in science. It’s not a finite field. Everything that I study is unrelated to

what I’m doing; it’s like that because things just keep changing. There are so many facets in the field.

Q. What do you find to be the most rewarding aspect of your profession?

A. When you provide some insight into how something is working that is beneficial to others. Also,

finding new thoughts and ideas that no one has found before — that’s rewarding.

Testimonial

"Our lab has relied on Cell Line Genetics for stem cell characterization, authentication and custom services for over three years. CLG has consistently provided the level of service, expertise and turn-around our research efforts demand. Cell Line's characterization and detection of polymorphisms of our non-human primate induced pluripotent stem cell lines (iPSC) was an important part of our research effort. We value our relationship with CLG and look forward to our continued partnership."
