June was nearly $39,000 better than budget, but that figure is a bit misleading for two reasons; one, our auditors made some adjustments that moved about $15,000 of current year expenses back to the 12-13 fiscal year and two, revenue accrued for late fees and violations was not actually received-inflating that amount by over $5,000. Even with that, we were still about $20,000 better than budget. For the fiscal year we have been better than budget each month and the total so far is $78,602. The reserve account remains in excellent shape with cash and investments total-ing $3,572,781.36. That amount will decline slightly in the coming months as the bills for the work on the Clubhouse bathrooms and the Parking lot come due. Those costs are anticipated as we figure cash flow for investment purposes. In-

I want to thank the many volunteers that placed the flags in the circle and common area for the Independence Day weekend. It always makes me proud of our country and our community to see all the flags. It is also a reminder of the many sacrifices our veterans have made on our behalf.

By the time you are reading this, work should be completed on the first of the clubhouse restrooms refurbish-ing. Also, the replacement of five greens on the golf course will have started. As I said in an earlier article, please be patient while this important work is being done. Hopefully all the work slated for the coming months will be completed by the time the golf course reopens after over-seeding in September. That includes all the clubhouse restrooms being finished, the parking lot being repaired and sealed, five new greens and winter grass growing on the course.(5225 Rim View)

All this work is being paid for out of our reserve funds that are set aside based on a Reserve Study specialist recommendation. As our Treasurer, Pat Calnon, will tell you, our reserve funds are in very good shape and the Board has an obligation to maintain our property.

The golf course will close on Monday, September 9th for over-seeding and will re-open on Saturday, Septem-ber 28th.

Green Re-surface

On August 19th we will begin work re-surfacing greens #1,10,15,16 and 18. This will make our golf course even better! We will have temporary greens for the few weeks before the over-seeding and when the course re-opens in late September these greens will be open for play again. Thank you in advance for your patience while we strive to improve the Los Prados experience! *The two putt rule will be in effect for the temporary greens. That means that once your ball is on the temporary (mowed) surface, you only need to record a maximum of two putts.

Attention Homeowners

Please understand that the golf course can be a dangerous place at times. Errant golf shots have been known to cause great injury and sometimes death. With that in mind, I am asking people not to walk or drive your golf carts on the golf course unless you are playing golf or driving to the course to play golf. The course marshals will be enforcing this policy so I ask that you respect their authority when it comes to this matter. Be safe!

Tip of the Month

my putting back on track. Place a coin on the green about one foot from your ball. Practice putting over the coin several times. Your ball should eventually hit the coin 100% of the time. This drill focuses your mind on starting the putt in the correct direction. It also keeps you from steering the face of the putter on longer putts. Swimming Pool Rules Pool furniture is the property of the association and is not to be removed from pool area at any time. No glass containers or bottles (including lotions) are permitted in the pool area. Life guards are not provided; therefore, use of pool is at your own risk. No solo swimming is allowed. Children under the age of 14 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Pool hours are posted at each pool. No activity is permitted at the pools other than during posted hours. Operation and use of swimming pools are subject to regulations issued by Nevada State Board of Health and Clark County Health Department, which are posted at pools. Addi-tional rules for the Family Pool Hot Tub are posted on the fence beside the Spa. All children that require diapers must wear rubber pants and must wear an appropri-ate swim suit. Each homeowner is issued a key when they register and no one should open the pool gate for people coming to the pool without a key.

The Dog Days of Summer are upon us, and good grief it is HOT! Still there are some hardy souls who are un-daunted by the 110+, and continue Wednesday play.

June's Low Gross winner was Sandi Fuerstenberg; Cheryl Rodrigues was the Low Net winner.

The course is soliciting bids to replace the sand in some of the bunkers. If you've found yourself in a couple of the bunkers lately, this improvement can't come too soon.... Also, five greens will be redone. It's great to see these types of upgrades and attention to detail in maintaining a quality course!

Team Play is over for the season, and the end of year party will be held @ Las Vegas Country Club. All par-ticipants enjoyed the monthly tournaments, and are ready to "bring home the Gold" next year!

The Fall Social will be our next event on October 13. Shirley Vandermoon will be in charge of this event.

Tanya Henderson will chair the Invitational October 30. The format will be slightly different (two-person Best Ball on the front nine/Scramble on the back). The increased registration fee will cover Mulligans and Magic Putts as well as the usual continental breakfast, lunch, green fees and prizes. Watch the bulletin board for the registration forms, find a partner, and participate! And, don't forget to volunteer for one (or even two!) of the jobs that need to be done. We're a small Club, so there is plenty of work to go around! LPWGA's Invi-tational is one of the favored events in the Valley; the new greens and freshly sanded bunkers will be complete by then, further enhancing play.

Finally, we celebrated birthdays. Happy B'day in July to Soonja Oh & Gloria Pianko, and in August to Faye Berdine, Nayda Birrell, Darlene Bockwinkel, Sally Burke, Geneiva Cestkowski, and Lyn Jackson.

The Player Services Station has been generally well received and seems at least early on doing what it was in-tended to do. That is to make the round enjoyable starting at the curb. I know when I play other courses the most enjoyable ones have this sort of reception center and there is no doubt where everything is and how you get started.

The golf course is experiencing the normal summer ongoing issues with weeds and heat. We have recently gained some golf course staff so we should be able to continue weed abatement. The struggle with heat related problems is an on going battle that will be around until overseeding is complete.

Annual Payment of $1295.00 was approved and made to LPWGA for entering the golf scores into the GHIN Handicap System.

From the President (No not Mr. Obama): For a number of years, we have permitted any member of the Los Prados Men's Club to have a guest play in his group. The guest would not have to participate in the competition or pay the fees for the competition. This was done primarily to accommodate visitors from out of town. We will still allow such guests to play with the Men's Club

However, this accommodation was not meant to allow residents of Los Prados or the surrounding communities to play with the Men's Club on a regular basis, without entering in the competition.

Any golfer who wishes to play with the Men's Club must pay the appropriate fees. If that golfer chooses not to do so, he will be asked to drop back to play after all Men's Club groups have teed off.

Rules Rule Pace of play continues to be a problem at all levels of play. As such the USGA published this article in April of this year. Denny Huff provided it to me and I thought that since Our man Jerry Dunlap is struggling with slow play it might be worth putting the article in our Newsletter.

By Dirk F. Kingma April 4, 2013 You might be a slow player if ... you find that you are reading this article and it is not attached to a magazine. I will explain later. It seems like every time I read anything having to do with the problems in golf, right at the top of the list is slow play. For many golfers, slow play can ruin an otherwise pleasurable round. It occurred to me that one of the major contributing factors to slow play may be that a slow player may not know that he is slow. We can at least fix this problem. With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy here we go. You might be a slow player if ... you refuse to leave the putting green until you have dutifully recorded each and every score on your scorecard. Please proceed to the next teeing ground and do your score keeping there so the group behind you can hit in. You might be a slow player if ... play. Please find your yardage and make your club selection while the previous player is hitting so you are ready to play when it is your turn. You might be a slow player if ... you sit in your cart, which is 20 yards from your ball, until your cartmate hits, then you drive to your ball, get out of the cart, look for your yardage and go through your whole routine. Please get out of your cart, estimate your yardage, take the club you think you will use and one club shorter and one club longer, then walk those 20 yards and be ready to hit when it is your turn. Your cartmate can then drive over to pick you up. Oh, and by the way, hold those three clubs in your hand after your cartmate picks you up. It saves even more time if you wait and replace them when it is time to make your next club selection. You might be a slow player if ... you wait until it is your turn to putt to study your line, plumb-bob from above and below, crouch down and do the Tiger-shade-the-eyes thing, and finally miss that 10 footer. Please get as much of your prep work as possible while others are doing the same no, not while they are putting but while they are also lining things up. You can learn most of what you need to know just observing the other putts. You might be a slow player if ... the group ahead of you is on the green of a par 5 before your group has played your tee shots, or you have an open par 4 before your group has cleared the tee. Never should any player take longer than 40 seconds to play a shot. Start the timing when it is your turn to play and there is nothing preventing you from playing. Now, if you play golf with someone who possesses one or more of the above mentioned traits, here is how we

Margaret our Chief Operating Officer and Jeff our new Food & Beverage Manager we were able to work out a favorable solution. Our village will not have to struggle with weather issues, seating, tents, coolers and etc. Our board is looking forward to a record breaking well-attended event with these new accommodations. Remember that the library exists solely because of your donations; it is a non budgeted activity with only occasional petty cash funds spent for supplies. other July? Outstanding! So now, just six weeks to go before the evenings start to cool down. Wonderful. Evening car shows will be possible again. Phew.

Yeah, yeah, lots of you folks love the stifling heat. You must have your rea-sons, but, it ain't good for cars; especially old classics with original interiors. The sun's ultra-violet rays wreak havoc with old (and often brittle) vinyl and leather coverings.

This same damage with new cars as well that are left outside unprotected. If you still insist on hoarding that useless junk in the garage at least get that new car's windows tinted. It does make a difference. Get a dash mat too.

And while you're at it, use those foldable windshield screens; the shiny silver ones are best. But don't look ridiculous by installing it up front when parked facing north. In those situations just lay it over the top of the back seat and rear shelf. Easy, eh?

Well, for three months now we've been tackling all the necessary preparations for our fourth annual car show on October 19th. We keep gaining new club mem-bers so the work load for show preparations has been easier to delegate. Actually, to make room for our expanded attendance we've had to move our monthly gather-ings to the Cypress Room in the clubhouse. We meet every fourth Monday (except December) at 6:00pm. Dinner is optional - car talk ain't mandatory, but it hap-pens. For more specific details you can call me at 395-6992.

Regarding previous photo quiz pictures, the June column displayed a 1932 Ford "Deuce" roadster with the venerable "flathead" engine. Last month's quiz was ad-mittedly a toughie. That beauty was a 1932 Oldsmobile five window coupe. Unfortunately, it's only one of two surviving examples of 164 produced.
