    Lesson Seven

IntroductionWorksheet values are often difficult to visualize orinterpret. However, with Lotus l-2-3's chart featuresto graphically represent your data, understandingthesevalues becomes easy. There are a variety of charts withwhich you can experiment. You can view your valuesillustrated in aZD or 3D pie, bar, or line chart, to namea few.Chart modifications are easy to make because 1-2-3charts are dynamically linked to their worksheet. Therefore, any changes that you make to the worksheetare automatically reflected in the chart. In this lesson, you will chart data from a worksheet fileand then examine a chart. You'll change a chart typeand view how changes made to your worksheet areautomatically updated in the chart. Finally, you'llassign a name to a chart.

Lesson ObjectivesBy the end of Lesson Seven, you will be able to:o Chart Datae Examine a Charto Change Chart Types. View Data Changes. Name a Chart

Charting DataFirst highlight the range or ranges of data you want to chart. After that, Lotus 1-2-3 can create a new chartbased on the selected dat a. Eachrange of data is called a "data series. " In the illustration below the incomefigures make up one data series. However, a chart can have more than one data series. For example, ifyou chart income along with profit you'd have two data series. All in all, a chart can contain up to 23 dataseries. In this skill, you will create a new chart displaying one data series, quarterly profit.

number $100 appears in cell G7.

Using @FunctionsLotus 1-2-3 has over two hundred functions built into the program that perform mathematical calcula-tions. Three useful statistical functions are @MIN, @MAX, and @AVG. The @MIN function finds theminimum or lowest value while the @MAX function finds the maximum or highest value. Certain typesof data, called "arguments" are used in @Functions. Arguments are always enclosed in parentheses andfollow the function name.In this skill, you will use @Functions to perform calculations.

Creating an IF StatementThe logical function @IF allows you to set up an either/or situation. If a certain condition (which youspecify) is TRUE, then one value is pasted into the cell. If the condition is FALSE, a different value ispasted into the cell. (You specify the information that is pasted into the cell for a true or false condition.)In this skill, you will create an @IF statement to determine whether or not a salesperson should receivea bonus.

Using Absolute AddressingWhen you do not want a cell address to adjust automatically (known as relative addressing), you needto make the cell absolute. An absolute address does not change when copied. To specify an absolute address, type adollar sign ($) before each part of the address you want to remain"absolutely" the same. You can also use the F4 (ABS) key to change the address. In this skill, you will use the F4 (ABS) key to change the @IF formula so that the cell address, G7, is madeabsolute. You will then copy the formula to cells E6 through E14.

The cell address G7 is now G8, G9,and so on.3 Press:Notice: Because of relative addressing, the formula in this cell islooking to cell GB for the average sales number. Cell GB is empty. You will need to make the average sales, cell G7 absolute in theformula.
