Loughborough has a proud history in Engineering

Thanks to the vision of Doctor Herbert Schofield, Engineering at Loughboroughis as strong as it has always been.

Over the last centenary, we have built upon our distinctive reputation for excellence in teaching, research and strong links with industry – an enviable combination which has consistently helped us to produce some of the best and most capable engineers in the world.

Today, engineering at Loughborough remains highly respected both nationally and internationally.

Our undergraduate degrees attract more prospective engineers than anywhere else in the country and our graduates consistently rank their experience amongst the best nationally and, in turn, are highly sought after by industry world-wide. This is coupled by research which is regarded as internationally excellent or world-leading, according to the latest Government Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) and when considering quality and quantity ranks in the top five in the UK.

– a true reflection of all that is great about Engineering at Loughborough.

Looking to the future

Engineering at Loughborough strives to address the world’s most pressing challenges with world-leading teaching and research. In tackling these challenges we strive to:

n Ensure the most able students, regardless of opportunity, can study at Loughborough

n Make sure that ability – not ability to pay – shapes our student body

n Stimulate and motivate future leaders to enable them to achieve their full potential

Throughout Loughborough’s history, our alumni and friends have made major contributions across the full spectrum of Engineering. We would now like to call upon you to support Loughborough’s engineers of tomorrow by giving to the Loughborough Engineers Fund.

Your support could be a single gift, a regular donation, or by remembering the Faculty of Engineering in your Will.

Professor Jon Binner – Dean of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Material Engineering Professor Rob Parkin – Dean of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Professor Tony Thorpe– Dean of Civil and Building Engineering Professor Yiannis Vardaxoglou – Dean of Electronic, Electrical and systems Engineering

“I think it is important to support our engineers of tomorrow, so I recently responded to an alumni fundraising appeal for the first time, and made a contribution to the Engineers Fund.”

Peter Johnson – Civil Engineering Class of 1971

Loughborough University Development Trust

“I am proud to have studied engineering at Loughborough, and very thankful for my education. All that I learnt and experienced during my time at Loughborough helped me throughout my career. I would like the engineers of tomorrow to have the same and this is why I have given to the Engineers Fund. I hope that you will too.”

Roger Barber, Civil Engineering, Class of 1942

Over the last 10 years, Loughborough University Development Trust has received almost £2 million in philanthropic donations to support funds like the Loughborough Engineers Fund.

In turn, many students have benefitted, and the University has been able to provide a world-class education and experience – as evidenced by Loughborough topping the Times Higher Education’s (THE) Best Student Experience poll five years running.

In part, this has been made possible by the generosity of alumni and friends of the University. Some have supported the Trust from its earliest days, and week by week the number of supportersis growing.
