When Nosferatu was defining itsroadandbeforereleasingtheirfirstalbum,LouisDelWraycomesinasasinger.Sincethat first step for the band, singers keeponchanging.Heleftthebandin1993andthencamebackin2000forthelivealbum“ReflectionsthroughaDarkerGlass”,alivecompilationofthe1991-1999period.Hisdefinitivecomebackis in2005whentheyrelease“Somebody put something in mydrink”asasingleinJune.Andaftersomecompilationstheyrelease“Wonderland”in2011.TodaywehavethepleasureofinterviewingLouis,whohassaidtoustheyarerecordinganewalbum,andwewilltalkaboutit.

Hello Louis, before we start with the

interviewIwanttothankyouforlettingushavethiscontactwithyou.Weknowthatthebandisinmerseintheprocessofanewalbumandwetothankyoufortakingthetimetorespond.

What are your memories of those“Vampire’sCry”and“Rise”earlyyears?Mostly hours on the road sitting in thebackofourhearsetravellingupanddownEngland.Iwassomewhatinsularinthosedays,andhidmyselfawayfromalotofthepeopleImightotherwisehavemet.Maybeit’shindsight,butIrememberaparticularatmosphere toa lotof those times, likeadream,asthepastsooftenseems.

What can you tell me about those year’sscene,withallof thosenewgothicbands,calledasthe“secondwave”?Ididn’tgotomanysmallgigsthen,somostofthebandsIsawwereoneswewereplayingwith.WhenIfirstjoined,VladandDamientook me to see Rosetta Stone, and theywerelike‘thisisthecompetition’,Ithoughttheyweregreat,actually.I’vegotacassetteofabandcalledTheWitchingHourinmykitchenthatIputonthejusttheotherday.I like the simplicity that and other thanthemIusedtolikeAncestry,althoughtheywere always bitchy about us.Therewas alotofthat!Ialwaysthinkit’simportantnottolistentotoomanyotherbandsfromthesame‘scene’ if you’re in a band, otherwise

everyone starts being influenced by eachother,whichisstifling.

Whatdidyoudowhenyoulefttheband?I played in a couple of other bands,Fashionable Living Death, and DitzyMicro. Fashionable LivingDeathwere anamazingpunkband,andcertainlythemostfunbandtobeinIcanimagine.

Howdidyoucomebacktotheband?Damien started phoningme up, trying totwist my arm with promises of fame andfortune.Iguessthatdidthetrick.

of absence.What changesdid younoticeinNosferatuaftersomanyyears?No one could remember how to write adecentsonghaha,butwesoonsolvedthatone.Damienstillhasthesamepinkguitarcablesandall theequipmenthedidfromyears before, so thatwas pretty familiar!ThemostexcitingthingwasthatwewereabletoplayoutsideofEngland–somethingI’dnothadthechancetodothefirsttimearound. I am always amazed at our fansfrom abroad. Itmakesme very happy tobe able to write songs and connect withpeoplefromallovertheworld.

Almosttenyearshavepastofthatsingle,with a little recording activity, and then,in 2011, Wonderland. Why haven’t youreleasednewmaterialforsomanyyears?There’snorush.Ithinkpeoplewouldgetprettyboredofusifwebroughtoutanewrecordevery6months.Iliketomakesureevery album is better than the last one,otherwisewhat’sthepoint?

Wonderlandisforme,Nosferatu’sgreatestalbum. Was it for you, a rebirth withinthe band? The band sounds mature andexquisiteinit.We’re very proud of it. I’d learnt a lot ofthings – technically and creatively sincewe made Rise, so Wonderland was theculminationofthoseyears.Ittookawhileafter re-joining for it feel like Nosferatuagain, and get a stable line-up together.Italso tookusawhile tofigureoutwhatweactuallysoundedlikeafteryearsapart,andformetodecideonmyhaircut!

Now, there’s a new album in process. Inwhichstateareyouin?

We’vefoundanamazingstudioinParistowork in.Rather thanrecord the songsaswewritethemaswedidwithWonderland,thistimewe’rewritingeverythingfirstandrehearsingitsowecanbasicallyrecordthealbumlive.Whenwegetinthestudiothewhole thing shouldn’t take us any longerthan14daystomake,starttofinish,soIguesswe’reinthecalmbeforethestormatthemoment.

Whendoyouthinkitwillbereleased?If everything goes to plan, it’ll be outbeforetheendoftheyear.

HowdoyouseetheGothicscenetoday?I’mnotsureanyonereallyknowswhatthegothic scene really is. There are a lot ofpeoplewhothinktheydo,butI’vealwaysthought itwas important forbandstobefreshandoriginalandtobedaringanddigdeeper, otherwise it’s like a musical andcreativeghetto.Someoneoncesaidtome‘gothicmusicisafont’,whichinspiredthefirstverseof‘HorrorHoliday’.It’sabitofaharshstatement,butsometimesIwonderiftheyhaveapoint.

How important are social networks forNosferatu?They’vehelpedusconnectwithmanyfanswhomightneverhaveheardofNosferatuand I suppose they’re invaluable thesedays.I’dstillmuchratherwriteandreceivelettersthough.Ithinkit’shardforartiststo retain an air of mystery when peopleexpecttoseepicturesofwhatyouhavefordinner.Whenever I post what I’m reallythinking,peoplethinkI’minsane!

HasitoccurredtoyoutomakeaLatinAmerica’stourwiththeband?Itcertainlyhas!Wewouldlovetoplay,andIknowwehavemanyfansinthesouth,soIexpectwe’llgetovertoyoubeforetoolong.

Whatareyourplansfor2015?We’ve got someEuropeandates linedup for themiddle of the year,which I’mreallylookingforwardto.OtherthanthatI’msecretingmyselfawaywritingsongsandperfectingarecipefortheperfectcake!
