Love

And

Sex By: Marlena L. Hayley W. Tiara M. Ashley T.

Page 2: Love and sex

Love

A profound feeling of affection towards another.

Sexual passion or desire. A person toward whom love is felt;

someone’s beloved; sweetheart.

Page 3: Love and sex

Sex

The action in which to conceive. An act of lustful passion.

Page 4: Love and sex

So what’s the Big Deal?

With the new perception in today’s society, it appears to be that the common association with love tends to be sex. With this social mindset, many problems have emerged.

Page 5: Love and sex

Teen Pregnancy In 2005, Texas had the 4th highest teen

pregnancy rate. Teen pregnancy doesn’t only affect the

mother but the father as well. Education needed to live comfortably is

usually not reached. Usually parents settle for lower paying

jobs because that is all that is available to them.

Higher paying jobs usually require too much time and the needs for the child are neglected.

Page 6: Love and sex

On a Global Aspect…. Texas has been ranked as #4 in the

United States with the most teen pregnancies.

The United States is ranked #1 for the most teen pregnancies.

From a social standpoint, women have been taught to have large families in the hopes of raising their social status.

Global Cont. Many women drop out of school in order to

start creating their families. This causes a financial bind because they

lack the education they need to have jobs. In China, each family is only allowed one

child per household This results in the desire for a son and an

increase of abortions when a daughter is discovered.

This leads to the unequal ratio of men to women in China.

So what about the Economy?

Pregnancies affect the economy more than people think.

The new household economics usually result in either higher futuristic decisions such as teen marriage and sometimes suicide.

Medicaid comprises of 43% of all federal grants. It’s one of the largest forms of aid the federal government can get. After the Roe v. Wade decision, Medicaid could fund abortions without any restriction until Henry Hyde introduced another amendment.

The only way women could have coverage, or funding, is in the case of rape, incest, or life endangerment.

STDs

HIV and Aids have become more prominent than before.

Fear the incurable “H’s”-HIV-HPV-Herpes

Everything other than these three STDs are considered to be STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections) because they can be cured.

Page 11: Love and sex

STDs in Every Day Life More than 30 million people around the

world have died from Aids related diseases.

33.3 million people around the world today are living with HIV.

The United States and in other high income countries the concentration of the spread has been gay men and drug use, but now the driving force is unprotected sex.

Page 12: Love and sex

What about Everywhere Else?

In South Africa it’s estimated that 17.8% people are living with HIV meaning, South Africa has the most infected people living than any other country.

22.5 million Africans are living with HIV and Aids.

In Latin America there are around 1.4 million people living with HIV.

Factors that contribute are unprotected sex with men and women and injecting drug use.

Abortions During the late 1800’s until 1973 at least

500,000 illegal abortions were taking place. Many women have died due to failed

procedures. Pat MaGinnis started a movement that

attempted to reach out against illegal abortions in the late 1960s

She created an organization known as The Society for Human Abortion.

Kentucky abortions are only funded in the cases of rape, incest, and life endangerment.

Cont.

In Africa, some women have to walk miles to get contraceptives.

Most of the time, after being required to walk so far, it is already too late.

If forms of birth control were of easier access would this help prevent

unwanted pregnancies?

Page 15: Love and sex

Laws for Abortions In the last decade, over 350 laws have

passed against abortions. The Supreme Court ruled that states could

require a minor to inform her parents before getting an abortion.

Women all over the world are trying to find loop holes in order to have an abortion without hassle.

Women are forced to go to underground abortion clinics which result in poor medical attention.

Population

Africa’s population is doubled the size of Asia’s.

Almost all of the population growth is growing in undeveloped countries.

Eventually we will run out of resources due to the rapid increase in the population.

Discussion Questions

1. How can we decrease the rates of teen pregnancy?

2. Would you want to know the status of somebody who has been infected with HIV/AIDS? If so, how would you react with it?
