Today is Respect Life Sunday We can spend an entire lifetime thinking about the gifts God has bestowed upon us, but there is one gift that is necessary before any other gifts can be received: the gift of life itself. God is the author, the creator of all life. As we hear in the book of Genesis, He created light, darkness, water, trees, fish, animals and us. Our God did not just create everything and then disappear. He continues to be involved. We have life within us, but life is more than just a physical way of being. There is a quality of life we should look at. The Gospel talks about the quality our lives should have: lives filled with care and respect for one another. We try to recognize God’s presence in each other. The Gospel tells us that when we do something good for another person, we are doing it for God. Life indeed is so precious. Because we humans are often fragile, we need to recognize how important it is to treat each other gently. Yet, we see so much hatred, violence and injustice in the world. In light of the many tragedies our world continues to experience, many people are re-evaluating their priorities in life. We begin to see just how important it is for us to treasure our relationships with our families and friends. Life indeed is so fragile and can be so easily taken for granted. When tragedy occurs, we realize just how important it is to appreciate the people who are a part of our existence. We, as Catholic Christians, have a responsibility to treat life in all of its forms as God’s gift, as God’s presence to us. We can care for one another by taking action: visiting the sick and elderly, assisting the poor, praying for the unborn. Let us pray every single day that life will be respected in all of its forms by everyone and most importantly, that all life, no matter how small or helpless, will be recognized as God’s gift to the world. Father David

O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you we entrust the cause of life. Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, Of the poor whose lives are made difficult, Of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, Of the elderly and sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy. Amen.

[ STEWARDSHIP NOTE FOR TODAY ]
The phrase in today’s Psalm, “May you see your children’s children,” is really a prayer for a long life. The good steward knows that every day is a gift from God, to be lived with joy and thanksgiving. “May the Lord bless us all the days of our lives!”
The offertory collection amount for the weekend of September 18/19 is $9,442
We count on your generosity. Thank you!
Please Support Our Advertisers
Our Sunday bulletin is one of the primary ways we communicate with you. Through our arrangement with the J. S. Paluch Company, the parish does not pay for the bulletin printing, which saves us thousands of dollars every year. Our bulletin is supported through the generosity of the advertisers—many of whom are our own parish members. Most are members of our local community. We ask you to consider patronizing these businesses and when you do, take a moment to tell the owner that you appreciate their support of our parish through their advertising in the bulletin. Thanks!
We are blessed to have you with us today—and every weekend! Our liturgies are enhanced by your presence and participation. We hope that you find the experience here at St. James to include a warm and inspiring celebration of the Eucharist and the faith that we profess.
If you are interested in joining the parish, you may find new parishioner registration packets on the book rack located in our Church Coat Room or online at our website, stjamesge.org.
Welcome to St. James!
As part of St. James Reunite, we will be hosting a parish wide
service project this fall. Are you in need of some yard work
or light household tasks? Please let our volunteers help you!
—OR— Are you looking for a fun opportunity
to serve our own parishioners? Perhaps as a family you would
like to consider giving a few hours of your time this fall.
Please join us in this opportunity to serve our fellow parishioners.
We will match those in need
with those who would like to serve. Date and time to be mutually agreed upon
and coordinated by our team. All volunteers under the age of 18
need to be accompanied by an adult.
Please contact Lisa Orwig at [email protected]
or Ellen Green at [email protected] for more details or to sign up to participate.

Prayer to Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary
O Virgin Mary, grant that the recitation of thy Rosary may be for me each day, in the midst of my manifold duties, a bond of unity in my actions, a tribute of filial piety, a sweet refreshment, an encouragement to walk joyfully along the path of duty.
Grant, above all, O Virgin Mary, that the study of thy fifteen mysteries may form in my soul, little by little, a luminous atmosphere, pure, strengthening, and fragrant, which may penetrate my understanding, my will, my heart, my memory, my imagination, my whole being.
So shall I acquire the habit of praying while I work, without the aid of formal prayers, by interior acts of admiration and of supplication, or by aspirations of love.
I ask this of thee, O Queen of the Holy Rosary, through Saint Dominic, thy son of predilection, the renowned preacher of thy mysteries, and the faithful imitator of thy virtues.
Amen. Richert, Scott P. "Prayer to Our Lady of the Rosary." Learn Religions, Aug. 28, 2020, learnreligions.com/prayer-to-our-lady-of-the-rosary-542927.

Life Chain on Sunday, October 3rd
On Sunday, October 3rd, Respect Life Sunday, thousands of people of all faiths will be standing in silent witness of their reverence for life. Won’t you take an hour of your time to pray for the sin of abortion with your fellow Americans in a national Life Chain? This peaceful, prayerful demonstration sends a powerful message to passersby. In Glen Ellyn the Life Chain will line up at the former Aanchor Abortion Clinic, 1186 Roosevelt Road from 2:30 to 3:30 P.M. Come and be a witness for life. It is such a simple thing to do. You can bring the whole family. If you do not wish to stand for one hour, feel free to bring along a lawn chair. Thank you for standing up for Life!
A baby was saved at the Downers Grove Access Clinic last week! There was much rejoicing by the people who were praying there. St. James the Apostle Parish has committed to pray every Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to noon. Even if you don’t get to witness a baby being saved it is still so worthwhile to be there. You can sign yourself up at www.40daysforlife.com/downersgrove Of course, you are welcome at any other time that is more convenient for you. It is really helpful if you sign up so they know that hour is covered. The clinic is at 1700 W. 75th Street in Downers Grove, just across the street from the Woodridge Water Tower. Park on Devereaux. For other locations go to http://www.40daysforlife.com/en/. If you can’t come out in person, your prayers from home are also very much appreciated.

undy Sunday 2021 OCTOBER 16 & 17
Most people take things like underwear for granted. At Catholic Charities, we have found that
low-income families and seniors living on poverty-level incomes do not spend money on underwear
and they desperately need it.
Catholic Charities is proud to announce that the 19th Annual Undy Sunday will be held on the
weekend of October 16/17, 2021. We are asking parishes to collect underwear on that date. Last
year, nearly 50 parishes, schools and organizations participated in the program. They collected
thousands of pairs of underwear and socks which were distributed to low-income children, families
and seniors through our various locations throughout the Diocese of Joliet. This year we are hoping
for even more participation!
THE MOST NEEDED ITEMS IN DUPAGE COUNTY ARE:
• Long underwear
• Diapers, pull-ups, wipes
• Women’s underwear (small and medium)
• Men’s boxer briefs (all sizes)
DONATIONS MAY BE DROPPED IN ANY OF THE UNDY SUNDAY BOXES FOUND IN THE CHURCH
NARTHEX ON THE WEEKENDS OF OCTOBER 9/10 AND OCTOBER 16/17.

Would you like to deepen your relationship with Jesus Christ? Have you forgiven, but are still experiencing negative emotions?
Do you feel like you are bringing the same sins to confession, again?
Sin leaves all of us wounded, and as Pope Francis reminds us, the Church is a field hospital with all of us in need of healing from the Divine Physician.

Dr. Bob Schuchts, SR. Miriam James, Fr. Burke Masters and the John Paul II Healing Center
for HEALING THE WHOLE PERSON RETREAT
AT NOTRE DAME PARISHNOVEMBER 4-6TH, 2021
This event is offered both in-person or virtually via a private access page and livestream videos!
When St Isaac Jogues Parish hosted this retreat in Fall of 2019, there were 450 attendees who experienced wonderful healing from Jesus.
Bob Schuchts, founder of the JPII Healing Center Describes this Experience:
“I want people to experience encounters with Jesus that change their life. I want people to experience healing: physically,
emotionally, spiritually and relationally, and most of all healing in their relationship with God I want people’s lives and relationships to be transformed, and given tools for their healing journey going forward.”
“I realized how much change I experienced on one weekend, as opposed to when I’d been in counseling,
and I was startled by how much the Holy Spirit could transform quickly something that you’ve been trying to work on over a period of time.
So that was the catalyst for the work I started doing, incorporating the spiritual into my work, realizing that prayer and the Holy Spirit were the keys to transformation,
leading people into a relationship with Jesus and the Father.”
