Low carb material
With the demand for materials rising, and material production accounting for up to three quarters of all global industrial carbon emissions, a team at the EPSRC-sponsored UK INDEMAND Centre are tackling how to reduce the demand for these materials by reconsidering the entire product lifecycle.
Led by Dr Julian Allwood, researchers aim to develop a better understanding of the operation and performance of the whole material and energy system of UK industry.
Dr Allwood holds a £1.5 million, five-year EPSRC Leadership Fellowship. He is working with 20 global industry partners, including Jaguar Land Rover, Arup and Siemens, to develop innovative products, processes and business models which use less material while still meeting the UK’s needs.
