Kindergarten

Junior Kindergarten

As a Valentine to their parents, the JK girls wrote and illustrated a poem, "I Love You More" and created a Love Movie using the iPad app, "Explain Everything."

Kindergarteners at St. Catherine’s have celebrated the 100th day of school this month. St. Christopher’s Upper School boys, Thomas Cottrell and Teddy Gray, came dressed up as super heroes. Thomas was "Zero the Hero," a superhero that comes to our school every 10th day and leaves a treat. The big treat on the 100th day of school was that the girls FINALLY got to meet Zero the Hero and his sidekick. The Heroes delivered Krispy Kreme Donuts to all the Kindergarteners and read a poem.

First Grade First graders celebrated the 100th day of school last Friday. They listened to Fancy Nancy The 100th Day of School. The girls received one-dollar bills for their banks. They counted to one hundred and even predicted how many days they may end up having this year! The girls have also been practicing dances, songs, and poetry for their first grade performance, "Small but Mighty". The girls are excited about performing for their parents on Friday, February 27th. Fingers crossed that the weather will cooperate!

The National Coalition of Girls Schools (NCGS) recently released Steeped in Learning: The Student Experience at All-Girls Schools. This research report compares responses to the High School Survey of Student Engagement (HSSSE), which was taken by nearly 13,000 girls attending all-girls schools, coed independent schools and coed public schools. The girls' responses provide strong support for the value of an all-girls educational environment. The study found that girls attending all-girls schools are more likely to have an experience that supports their learning than are girls attending coed schools (independent and public). They have higher aspirations and are more motivated by their desire to succeed and learn. They feel challenged to achieve more and are more actively engaged in their learning. They are also more comfortable being themselves and with expressing ideas. Moreover, they feel supported in their endeavors.

“Whether they want to be astronauts, ambassadors, or accountants, gir ls need to know — not just think, but really know, deep down in their gut — that nothing can stand in their way. Girls' schools send that message to girls every day.” NCGS.org
