I hope everyone had a nice Holiday and everyone stayed warm and safe.

be prepared for it all.

At the kids Christmas party Santa and his helpers provided games, goodies and of

We will host the District 3 VFW and Auxiliary meetings on Jan.8th at 1:00 pm with a

baked chicken dinner being served following the meeting. The State Commander and

Auxiliary President will be the District guests. All members are urged to attend this

Auxiliary President’s Message

Anchored to Serve Our Veterans

And Their Families

Dear Sisters, Brothers, Comrades and Friends,

Happy New Year to everyone!!! Our membership is going great! We are over 100% at this time. As a matter

of fact we are 100% in all of our programs and am so proud of all the work we have accomplished in just a

few short months!

Last month was a busy month! Thank you to all of those who worked on both the Children’s Christmas party

and the Annual Post Christmas Party! I had the honor to attend Wreaths Across America Day on December

17, 2016 to place wreaths on the graves of our fallen service men and women. State president Karen Dotson

was also there to assist! It was an amazing snowy day, but I was honored to be there.

We will have a wonderful District 3 meeting on January 8, 2017. We will have the honor of having our State

President Karen Dotson attend our meeting. So I encourage all of our members to attend, as the meeting will

be held at Our Post. District 3 is also holding a calendar fundraising raffle this spring. Calendars are $10 and

have a daily prize for each day in April. Contact me if you are interested in getting one!

Our VFW Post is celebrating their 50th Anniversary Dinner on February 25, 2017. I hope to see a lot of faces

at this milestone event!

There are two Auxiliary programs coming up with deadlines that offer scholarships; The Continuing Educa-

tion Scholarship and The Patriotic Art Scholarship. The Continuing Education Scholarship is open to Auxilia-

ry members and their immediate family and the deadline is February 15 to National. The Patriotic Art Scholar-

ship is open to grades 9-12 and the deadline is March 31 to the Auxiliary. Further information about both these

scholarships and the entry forms are available at the National www.vfwauxiliary.org website.

**Reminder**The VFW Auxiliary body at the National Convention in Charlotte, NC voted to raise the life

membership dues by 15% across the board. This increase has taken effect January 1, 2017. In addition, any

annual member who has not renewed by December 31, 2016 loses the ability to apply for the Cancer Grant

Program and the Continuing Education Scholarship program. Both of these programs require one year’s con-

tinuous membership to apply for them.

Remembering the sacrifices our Veterans made to our country.

Be kind to one another.

PVA National Cemeteries Now Offering Pre-Need Eligibility Determinations: “The Department of Veterans

Affairs (VA) today announced it now provides eligibility determinations for interment in a VA national ceme-

tery prior to the time of need. Through the Pre-Need Determination of Eligibility Program, upon request, indi-

viduals can learn if they are eligible for burial or memorialization in a VA national cemetery.” See the full

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) took action against three reverse mortgage companies for

deceptive advertisements, including claiming that consumers could not lose their homes. The CFPB is ordering

American Advisors Group, Reverse Mortgage Solutions, and Aegean Financial to cease deceptive advertising

practices, implement systems to ensure they are complying with all laws, and pay penalties.

“These companies tricked consumers into believing they could not lose their homes with a reverse mortgage,”

said CFPB Director Richard Cordray. “All mortgage brokers and lenders need to abide by federal advertising

disclosure requirements in promoting their products.” See the full presser:

http://www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/newsroom/

The CFPB has long warned of the dangers associated with misleading and deceptive reverse mortgage adver-

tising given the complexity of the product and the consumers to whom the product is offered. For example, in

a June 2012 Report to Congress on Reverse Mortgages, the CFPB stated that “[f]alse and misleading advertis-

ing poses a serious risk to consumers.” The CFPB also published a June 2015 study, and accompanying advi-

sory warning, reaffirming the risk to consumers as a result of deceptive and misleading reverse mortgage ad-

vertising. * Submit a complaint - Can’t fix a problem with a financial product or service? Submit a complaint.

We’ll work to get you a response from the company. * Get answers to money questions - Financial matters can

be complicated. Get the facts you need to make choices about money, credit scores, mortgages, and more.

* Reach your financial goals - For the big financial decisions in your life, we offer free tools and resources to

help you reach your goals. Paying for College, Owning a Home, Planning for Retirement.

About the CFPB: The CFPB is a 21st century agency that helps consumer finance markets work by making

rules more effective, by consistently and fairly enforcing those rules, and by empowering consumers to take

more control over their economic lives. Learn more at consumerfinance.gov. Also on FB and Twitter
