Comrades,

Greetings! As I’m writing this month’s newsletter outside its 45 degrees and the sun is shining

gloriously. What a winner. I know our skiing enthusiasts might be a little disappointed about this

winter, but I for one greatly appreciate not being behind the snowblower….

In January we hosted the VFW District 3, north meeting. The meeting had 30 attendees. The District Commander was very appreciative of our efforts to prepare the Post for the meeting and with the delicious lunch we served. My thanks to all who helped prepare the Post and the lunch.

Starting in February we will be adjusting the canteen’s days of operation. We are going to be open Thursday – Monday. Wednesday’s just aren’t bringing in much business. However, if you an event or function and need the Canteen on a Wednesday we will be able to meet your request. We are also looking to start offering music on Thursday nights. Planning is underway and I’ll be able to provide more information in next month’s newsletter.

We are looking at the following events and activities for this February

St Valentine’s at the Canteen – February 14 at the Post. Bring your Valentine to the Canteen for a special gift. Drink specials and appetizers will be offered.

February Post Meeting – February 17th at the Post. No cost raffle to be held for all Post at-tendees. Winner will receive $25 in Texas Roadhouse gift cards.

Basket Raffle Collection – We’ll be collecting items for the basket raffle we will be conducting at our February 29th Anniversary dinner. If you have items to donate bring them to our Feb 17 meeting or drop them off with bar tender when the canteen is open (Another reason to visit the canteen)

Post Anniversary Potluck Dinner – February 29th at the Post. Come join us as both the Post and Auxiliary celebrate their anniversaries. The Post will provide a meat, side, and a dessert. The Auxiliary will provide salads. Attendees are asked to provide appetizers or sides to share. We ask all attendees to RSVP by February 24th by calling the Post. Please provide the number of per-sons to attend and the dish you will be providing. We are all hoping for a good turnout.

If, although it is probably more accurate to say when, the weather turns nasty again, please re-member to check on our comrades who may have difficulties getting around or clearing the white stuff. If needed the Post is always available to serve as a shelter if needed.

Finally, as I mentioned in last month’s newsletter membership is the VFW focus for 2020. Our Quartermaster and I will be reviewing past lists to identify comrades who may not be active and reach out to them to reestablish their membership. Please let Barry or I know, if you know of a former Post member who you think might be interested ion renewing their membership.

First month of the New Year absolutely flew by. Have a good St Valentine’s day and I do hope to see you at our February meeting or at the Anniversary dinner.

May God Bless you, your family and friends, our Veterans and their families and the United

States of America!

Auxiliary President’s Message

The Love for Our Veterans is

More Precious than Gold

Dear Comrades & Sisters- ,February is here and I can smell spring flowers (hopefully) coming around the corner.

Who needs the groundhog anyway.

Wow! It seems like the year is flying by! I am very proud of our Auxiliary, as we have accom-plished much this year. Winter is here. The weather is unpredictable so stay prepared. Check in on your friends and neighbors. We are doing well with the kitchen for bingo, but as the weather improves, so does the crowd at bingo, and we are still in need of volunteers to help out in the kitchen. We are getting by with the handful of people that are willing to volunteer a couple of hours on Tuesday nights, so the people that are working it are getting very tired. Please

consider giving a couple of hours of your time to help our VFW! We have been busy on building up our membership and I want to personally thank them and welcome them.

On another note, we have made 100% in membership and have been 100% across the board in all program areas!!! Thank you Kelli for making sure the reports all went where they

needed to go. Of course, we should still be collecting dues and expanding our auxiliary. Please remit your dues to Treasurer Rachel Frasier at 32 Luzerne Road Queensbury, NY 12804,

I will be attending the District Gold Chevron Ball , and then on to Corning for the Auxiliary Spring Conference. It is my pleasure to represent you at these events, but I am hoping that more of our members take an interest in our mission to help not only our own VFW Post, but to help all our Veterans who have to fight for every benefit they can get and deserve. In order to help our Veterans we must participate, and encourage other eligible members to join in with all we do. It is great to receive all the thank you notes from the schools, and

charitable organizations that we donate to, and it gives us a great fuzzy feeling inside, but we need to continue to raise money in order to accomplish this

Our next meeting will be February 17, 2020 at 6:00PM Come on in for a bite to eat and a drink with old friends. The VFW is serving dinner that night.

I sincerely hope everyone has started the New Year and on a goof foot. continues to have a

great New Year! God Bless our Troops, and all Veterans near and far. God Bless America!

Loyally yours

Margaret Gordon Monteleone

Legislation Introduced to Add New Presumptive Diseases for Agent Orange Exposure: Last Wednesday, Representatives Josh Harder (D-Calif.) and Pete Stauber (R-Minn.) introduced VFW-supported H.R. 5610, the Fair Care for Vietnam Veterans Act. This important bipartisan legislation would expand the list of presumptive condi-tions associated with Agent Orange exposure to include parkinsonism, bladder cancer, hypertension, and hyperthyroidism. In October 2019, it was revealed that White House officials impeded the inclusion of these diseases as presumptive conditions despite a recommendation from former Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin that they be added. In a press release, Representative Harder stat-ed, “No more studies. No more excuses. Everyone seems to think this is the right thing to do except for some Washington bureaucrats – it’s time to stop playing games and give our vets the benefits they earned.” The VFW has long advocated for the inclusion of these diseases on the list of presumptive conditions associated with Agent Orange exposure, and thanks Rep. Harder and Rep. Stauber for intro-ducing this legislation.
