History
• Linkin Park is an American band that formed in Agoura Hills, California
• “One Step Closer” was the band’s first single and one of the main songs that launched the band’s career.
• Their first album, “Hybrid Theory”, was released in 2000.• Linkin Park is named after Lincoln Park, which is an
actual park in Santa Monica. • The original founders of Linkin Park were Mike Shinoda,
Brad Delson, and Rob Bourdon. • Joe Hahn, Dave Farrell, and Chester Bennington were
recruited afterward.
History
• Their second album, “Meteora” was released in 2003, followed by “Minutes to Midnight” in 2008, “A Thousand Suns” in 2010, and “Living Things” in 2012.
• They have sold more than 60 million albums and have won 2 Grammy awards.
Social Media
• In their early years, they used internet chat-rooms and developed an informal 'street team' from the on-line community to spread the music.
• Nowadays, Linkin Park predominately uses these social media sites: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Youtube, and Instagram.
• They also promote themselves using their website, www.linkinpark.com, coupled with lpunderground.com.
• One of the social media sites that Linkin Park uses is Facebook
• They have almost 60 millions likes.
• They also have a ticket/tour section to keep their fans up to date on upcoming concerts.
• Linkin Park also uses Twitter to keep in touch with their fans
• They have 3.84 million followers.
• This is just another social media platform they use to stay connected with their fans.
• Use of Twitter increases their exposure to the online world.
Youtube
• Linkin park has about 3.5 million subscribers on Youtube.
• All of their new music and music videos are posted here, and the other social media sites that they use often relay fans to Youtube.
• Youtube is one of the most visited video sharing websites so it is a great place to launch new content.
• Linkin Park also has an Instagram account
• They have 300,000 followers.
• I think Instagram provides a more unique way for the band to stay connected with their fans, as the content is more visual.
Forums
• There are many ways to partake in Linkin Park’s online community, including their forums, blogs, and groups.
• Linkin Park’s website offers their supporters the ability to partake in discussion forums.
Forums, Cont.
Some of the topics are: the band itself, FAQs, LP Underground, Linkin Park Live, and side projects.
• Forums are very useful tools for communities like this.
• They allow the supporters and the community to participate.
Blogs
• Another way that Linkin Park is communicating with their community is through their blog on their website.
• This is a good way to keep their followers up to date and connected with them.
Groups
• To also enhance the community, there are groups to support Linkin Park.
• There are 69 pages worth of groups that are dedicated to the band.
• One thing I found interesting was that some of these groups were specific countries and regions, and were written in different languages.
• Because they offer this kind of diversity, it really enriches their international presence.
Creation and Maintainance
• The forums, blogs, and groups are all on Linkin Park’s website so the website maintains them.
• However, the fans in most cases are the ones that create and contribute to them.
• Groups, in particular, are predominately created by the fans.
• Fans can create their own groups outside of the website as well.
Conclusion
• This was a presentation on some brief information on Linkin Park and their social media and online presence.
• As well, we showed how they cater to their fans and community.
