About APYS 2018
Program Description
Utilizing the youth’s potential as the agents of change requires involving and
empowering them in development, policies and supporting their participation
at all levels. In the aspects of business sustainability, the youth has the
potential to be the catalyst of change and innovation that will propel the
organization in achieving success in their field. This has become a critical issue
especially at the impending arrival of the Fourth Industry Revolution.
Representing a majority of the population in most developing countries, the
youth are visibly contributing as political actors, innovators, entrepreneurs
and nation builders.
Coincidently, the youth are also being played by negative stigma
surrounding their generation such as disproportionate social, economic and
political barriers that inhibits their ability to unleash their full potential. It is
imperative that this cohort of young people receive appropriate support and
engagement as it determines the prospect of business sustainability in the
future. In line with the critical role of youth in fronting the Fourth Industrial
Revolution challenges, the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Universiti Utara
Malaysia will be organizing the 1st Asia Pacific Youth Leadership Summit on 11
- 16 August 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Program Objectives
1. To be platform for undergraduate students to exchange the ideas and
knowledge in the aspects of youth empowerment in fronting the Fourth
Industry Revolution challenges.
2. To provide international academic discourse experience for
undergraduates.
3. To strengthen the network among undergraduates from the Asia Pacific
region and the rest of the world.

Everything You Need to Know About . . .
1. Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia, boasting gleaming skyscrapers,
colonial architecture, charming locals, and a myriad of natural attractions.
Divided into numerous districts, its main hub is called the Golden Triangle
which comprises Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and
Chinatown. KL is widely recognized for numerous landmarks, including
Petronas Twin Towers and Petaling Street flea market. With frequent sales
events throughout the year, expansive shopping malls like Pavilion KL and
Suria KLCC are also among the biggest tourist attractions in the city, hosting
a wide range of upmarket labels from all over the world.
2. Putrajaya City
Putrajaya is Malaysia's third and latest Federal Territory. Built on an expansive
marshland and former oil palm estate in Selangor, the city spans an area of
almost 5,000 hectares and lies 25 km from Kuala Lumpur. Putrajaya takes over
the administrative functions of the capital city Kuala Lumpur and is part of
the Multimedia Super Corridor project of the Malaysian government. Much
Organisation and planning have gone into the development of Putrajaya as a
modern city with the latest communication technologies and progressive
infrastructure. The streets are elegantly designed with a European feel, along
with well-paved roads while the government buildings are a blend of modern
architecture with Islamic arts. Commercial, authoritative and residential areas
have been divided into precincts that blend into each other cohesively. A
waterway cuts through the city, flowing into a large lake

3. Melaka
Melaka is a Malaysian state on the Malay Peninsula's southwest coast. The
capital, Melaka City, has a colonial past seen in its preserved town center, the
site of 16th-century, Portuguese St. Paul’s Church. It's also home to Christ
Church, built by the Dutch in the 18th century. Next to Christ Church in Red
Square is the Stadthuys, the Dutch-era town hall now housing a museum of
Melaka history and ethnography.
Nearby is the ruined Porta de Santiago, originally the gate to the
demolished Portuguese fortress A Famosa. The 17th-century Cheng Hoon Teng
Temple and exhibits at Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum provide a historical look
at the city's Chinese-Malay culture. On Friday and Saturday nights, pedestrians’
throng Jonker Street Night Market, offering food carts, crafts and antiques.
