    At klck: To prevent accidental key presses, thehandset keys automatically lock after 10 seconds withoutpresses. Press the uNLoCK softkey to unlock the keypad(see page 23).

    Dialing 911: You must unlock the keypad before you candial 911 or any other number on the handset.

    When the handset is idle, the backlight is off. You must rst touch the touchpanel in order to take the handset or telephone base out of idle mode beforeusing it with the exception of the uNLoCK softkey. This rst touch is not anoperational keystroke.

    Installatin

    Install the telephone base close to a telephone jack and a power outlet notconnected to a wall switch. For optimum range and better reception, placethe telephone base in a central and open location.

    This product may be shipped with a protective sticker covering the handsetand/or telephone base display. Remove it before use.

    Communication devices such as: personal computers, computer routers,television sets, VCRs, wireless routers (wireless broadband, Wi-Fi, or802.11) or other cordless telephones.

    Excessive dust sources such as a workshop or garage.

    Excessive moisture.

    Extremely low temperature.

    Mechanical vibration or shock such as on top of a washing machine orwork bench.

    Use the cleaning cloth provided to clean your telephone. Clean yourtelephone only with a dry non-abrasive cloth. The use of a dampened cloth,cleaning uids or liquids of any type may permanently damage the touchpanel of your telephone.

    If you unplug the telephone before cleaning, remember to reset the clockwhen done.

    Install the telephone base as shown below. The telephone base is designedfor tabletop use only.

    Make sure that the electrical outlet is not controlled by a wall switch.

    If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed Internet servicethrough your telephone line, you must install a DSL lter between thetelephone line cord and the telephone wall jack. The lter prevents noise andcaller ID problems caused by DSL interference. Contact your DSL serviceprovider for more information about DSL lters.

    Use only the power adapter supplied with this product. To order areplacement, visit our website at www.vtechphones.com orcall 1 (800) 595-9511. In Canada, go to www.vtechcanada.com or dial1 (800) 267-7377.

    The power adapter is intended to be correctly oriented in a vertical oroor mount position. The prongs are not designed to hold the plug in place ifit is plugged into a ceiling, under-the-table or cabinet outlet.

    Once you have installed the battery, the screen indicates the battery status(see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the telephonebase to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in thetelephone base when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 16 hours of

    continuous charging. See the table on page 77 for battery operating times.If the screen is blank, you need to charge the handset without interruption forat least 10 minutes to give the handset enough charge to use the telephonefor a short time. The handset beeps and shows Lw battr. If you are on acall in low battery mode, the handset beeps every minute.

    The following table summarizes the battery charge indicators and actionsto take.

    Your new LS6245 telephone system with Bluetooth wireless technology hasthe following features:

    Pair up to four Bluetooth enabled cell phones with the telephone base.

    Connect a maximum of two cell phones to make and receive cell calls.Only one cell phone can be active on a call at a time.

    Connect a Bluetooth enabled headset for making and receiving home calls.

    Conference cell and home calls.

    Make and receive calls using your cell phone plan while utilizing the easeand comfort of your home telephone system.

    IMPoRTANT INFoRMATIoN

    After plugging in the telephone base, wait at least 20 seconds beforeconnecting a Bluetooth device. The screen shows Bltt sstm bsif you try to connect too soon.

    Refer to the user's manual of your cell phone or headset for moreinformation about its Bluetooth function.

    Bluetooth wireless technology operates within a short range (about30 feet). When using a cell phone with the LS6245, it is best to placeyour cell phone between one and fteen feet from the telephone base.When using a Bluetooth headset with the LS6245, you are limited to the

    range of your headset (see the users manual of your headset for moreinformation).

    Make sure that your cell phone has sufcient signal strength. You mayneed to move the cell phone and telephone base to a location where thecell phone signal strength is stronger.

    Charge your Bluetooth cell phone while it is connected to the telephonebase. Your cell phone's battery discharges faster while it is connected tothe telephone base via Bluetooth wireless technology.

    Monitor your cell phone's usage because airtime is deducted from your

    cellular plan for the duration of all cell calls.Refer to the Bltt stp section (page 14) to learn how to set upand manage your Bluetooth device(s). Refer to the Tlpn pratinsection (page 42) on how to operate your Bluetooth devices with your newLS6245 telephone system with Bluetooth wireless technology. Refer to theTrblsting section (page 80) if you experience difculty using thetelephone system.

    Below are some terms used in this users manual to help you become familiarwith using your Bluetooth devices and your new LS6245 telephone system.

    Activ dvics - A maximum of two paired devices (two cell phones, or onecell phone and one headset) on the active devices list can be connected to

    the telephone base, but only one cell phone or headset can be on a call ata time.

    Bltt cll pn - Refers to a Bluetooth enabled cell telephone.

    Cll lin - The communication service provided through your Bluetoothenabled cell telephone.

    Cnnctd - A Bluetooth device (cell phone or headset) can only be usedwhen it is connected to the telephone base. When a Bluetooth device is

    connected to the telephone base and active on the active devices list, it isready for use.

    Discnnctd - A diagonal line appears across devices 1 and/or 2 when thecorresponding Bluetooth device is disconnected from the telephone base.

    Discvrabl md - Before a Bluetooth device can be paired, it must beset in this mode. When pairing your cell phone, the telephone base is set inthis mode. When pairing a headset, the headset must be set in this mode.Depending on the manufacturer, this mode is sometimes referred to asFind M r Visibilit.

    hm lin - Your conventional telephone land line.

    Paird dvics - Once Bluetooth devices have been paired with thetelephone base, they appear on the paired devices list. A maximum of fourdevices can be paired with the telephone base, but only two can be on theactive devices list.

    Pairing - This refers to the process of Bluetooth devices registering deviceinformation with each other. The telephone base must be paired with a

    Bluetooth enabled cell phone or headset before the Bluetooth device can beused. Depending on the manufacturer, this is also referred to as Bnding.

    PIN - By default, the PIN is 0000 for the telephone base and for mostBluetooth devices. PIN information must be exchanged between Bluetoothdevices before they can be used. This is also known as a Passk orPasscd.

    The telephone base allows you to pair up to four Bluetooth devices. Youcan have a maximum of two paired devices connected at any time (two cellphones, or one cell phone and one headset), but only one cell phone orheadset can be on a call at a time.

    Once you have paired a device with the telephone base, the pairinginformation is stored on the paired devices list (page 16). To use a paireddevice, it must be connected and on the active devices list (page 18).

    IMPoRTANT INFoRMATIoN

    Once you have paired a device with the telephone base, you do not haveto repeat the pairing procedure again, unless you delete the device fromthe paired devices list (page 16).

    When adding, removing, or replacing a Bluetooth device on the activedevices list, all connected devices are temporarily disconnected until theprocedure is complete. It may take up to two minutes to reconnect.

    Turn on the Bluetooth feature of your cell phone andsearch for or add new devices.

    Once your cell phone nds VTc LS6245, select it.

    Enter the PIN of the telephone base (the defaultPIN is 0000) into your cell phone to continue thepairing process.

    Use the intercom feature for conversations between two system handsets.

    You can buy additional expansion handsets (LS6204) for this telephonesystem. You can register up to 12 handsets to the telephone base.

    Answr an incming call dring an intrcm call

    When you receive an incoming home call during an intercom call, there is analert tone and Incming call appears on screens.

    Press /hoMe/FLASh on the handset or /hoMe on the telephonebase to answer the home call and the intercom call ends automatically.

    Press the BACK softkey to continue the intercom call.

    When you receive an incoming cell call during an intercom call, there is analert tone and Incming call appears on screens.

    Press /CeLL on the handset or telephone base to answer the cell call

    and the intercom call ends automatically.- oR -

    Press the BACK softkey to continue the intercom call.

    oR -

    Press the ReJeCT softkey if you do not want to answer the call. Theintercom call continues.

    You can cancel the intercom call before it is answered by pressingoFF/CLeAR on your originating handset; or CANCeL/ on thetelephone base.

    If the other handset or the telephone base does not answer the intercom

    call within 100 seconds, is in the directory or call log, or is out of range, youroriginating handset or telephone base shows unabl t call tr again andreturns to idle mode.

    You can use a maximum of four handsets, or three handsets and thetelephone base, at a time. When two handsets are used on an intercom call,use two other system handsets for an outside call.

    You can let another handset or the telephone base join you on an outsidecall. That call continues until all people hang up.

    Press /hoMe/FLASh on the handset or /hoMe on the telephonebase to join the call.

    Transfr a call

    You can use intercom to transfer an outside call to another system handset orthe telephone base.

    When on an outside call, press the oPTIoN softkey.

    Press /VoL+or VoL-/ to highlight Intrcm, then press the SeLeCTsoftkey. The outside is put on hold.

    When the handset shows INTeRCoM To:, press /VoL+/ or CID/VoL-/to select a destination.

    Press the SeLeCT softkey.

    If you are calling the telephone base, your handset shows Callingbas and the telephone base rings and shows handst X is calling.

    If you are calling another handset, your handset showsCalling andst X and the destination handset rings and showshandst X is calling.

    When the destination handset answers the intercom call, both screensshow Intrcm.

    Press oFF/CLeAR or the eND softkey on the originating handset. Bothscreens show Intrcm ndd.

    Directory entries are stored at the telephone base and shared by allsystem handsets. Any changes made on one handset or the telephone
