LTL Holdings in its corporate journey over past 35 years had achieved robust and healthy growth to become a leading Engineering Company in the Power Sector in Sri Lanka. Over the years, we diversified our business into power generation, electricity infrastructure development, galvanizing and transformer manufacturing thus covering the entire value chain of the power sector in Sri Lanka and successful in investing in power plants and completing Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts in Bangladesh, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Oman.

The company’s initial business of manufacturing of transformers has grown significantly and today we manufacture and supply Sri Lanka’s entire distribution transformer requirements while exporting 50% of the production to many countries in the World.

LTL Holdings is the largest independent power producer in Sri Lanka providing up to 300 MW of power to the national grid. LTL’s fully automated Galvanizing plant provides hot dipped galvanizing for transmission towers and other industries and capable of producing an output of 6.2 metric ton per hour to the highest international standards.

The story of LTL Holdings

1996 LTL initiates its own 24MW power plant to sell electricity to the national grid under a long term Power Purchase Agreement, becoming the first Independent Power Producer in Sri Lanka.

l LTL opens automated steel fabrication facility.

2000 LTL commissions a second galvanizing plant to meet rising demand. The new facility in Sapugaskanda (10km from Colombo) is one of the largest and most modern gas fired galvanizing plants in South Asia.

2002 LTL’s first hydropower plant construction, the 2.2 MW Belihul Oya project, commences operations under a 15 year power purchase agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka.

2003 LTL’s subsidiary, Lakdhanavi Ltd in partnership with a publicly held diversified conglomerate, invests to set up a 100 MW thermal power plant in Puttalam, becoming the lowest cost Independent Power Producer in Sri Lanka.

l LTL steps into the global arena by exporting a Sri Lankan made transformer to Northern Iraq under a UN program.

1980 Lanka Transformers Ltd is commissioned as a joint venture between the Ceylon Electricity Board, Sri Lanka’s State owned energy utility and Bonar Long of Scotland, to facilitate technology transfer of transformer manufacturing.

1988 LTL introduces a ‘100% life time maintenance free,’ design for transformers.

l Mr. U D Jayawardana, a founding official of LTL, takes the reins as General Manager.

1991 LTL ventures into galvanizing to meet domestic rural electrification needs.

1995 Power generation is liberalized, allowing private investments in power plants in Sri Lanka.

2011 Lakdhanavi wins a contract to build two, 100MW HFO power projects in Bangladesh. Despite a challenging environment, Lakdhanavi completes both projects within 7 months, establishing its reputation in the region for Engineering, Procurement & Construction [EPC].

2012 LTL initiates its first wind power project with the 10MW Pawandhanavi plant, in the western coast of Sri Lanka. The wind project is commissioned in just under 6 months and is one of the most successful projects of the Company.

2013 Lakdhanavi builds and commissions a 24MW thermal power plant in Jaffna in an impressive 185 days, setting the benchmark for EPC projects.

2014 Lakdhanavi constructs two, 52.2 MW, HFO power plants in Natore and Comilla, for the Bangladesh Power Distribution Board (BPDB), under a 15 year contract with the Government of Bangladesh.

2004 LTL acquires international accreditations and embarks on a global marketing campaign for international projects

2005 The second hydro power plant developed by LTL’s subsidiary Lakdhanavi, is connected to the national grid.

2006 The Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL) entrusts the design, financing and construction of Sri Lanka’s largest thermal power plant, the 300MW Combined Cycle Power plant , to LTL. Despite tight deadlines,

2008 LTL completes the first 200MW phase of the Simple Cycle by November 2008.

2010 Last 100 MW is included completing the Combined Cycle operation. The operation and maintenance contract is awarded to LTL’s subsidiary Lakdhanavi for 25 years by the Government of Sri Lanka.

l Within the last two decades, Lakdhanavi has constructed and operated emergency power plants at

Sapugaskanda, Embilipitiya and Puttalam, in Sri Lanka, in capacities ranging from 20MW to 40MW.

l Lakdhanavi Completed EPC construction of 24 MW power plant in Chunnakam, Jaffna.

l Lakdhanavi Limited has diversified its presence in multiple fuel sources and is now expanding towards

Offshore Projects

With international expansion opportunities opening up , Lakdhanavi made a strategic decision to move into the international arena during the last decade by leveraging its strong local identity, excellent track record and experience, in large scale power projects.

In Bangladesh, Lakdhanavi executed EPC contracts to construct heavy furnace oil power plants. The Company was also awarded the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) contract for some of these power plants.

l Lakdhanavi has completed the EPC contracts for two 100MW power plants (Meghnaghat IEL and Dutch Bangla) in Bangladesh.

l Lakdhanavi was the EPC contractor for the 52 MW Raj Lanka power plant, and the 52 MW Lakdhanavi Bangla power plant in Bangladesh. The 15 year O & M contract of the Raj Lanka plant and the Lakdhanavi Bangla power plant are operated by Lakdhanavi Ltd.

Power installations to the capacity of 52 MWs were constructed in Bangladesh on a Build Own and Operate (BOO) scheme for 15 years, and are now generating power for the Bangladeshi National Electricity Grid, under the ownership of LTL Holdings

The 52 MW power plant in Comilla, Bangladesh has made Lakdhanavi’s international reputation, for successful implementation of dual fuel operational schemes (HFO/Gas) in Bangladesh.

In the Sultanate of Oman, LTL has collaborated with the Ministry of Defence in constructing a power plant.

In Nigeria, LTL has been involved in the provision of emergency power.

Lakdhanavi RenewableLakdhanavi Renewable, the renewable power projects arm of Lakdhanavi Ltd, pioneered the renewable energy industry in Sri Lanka. LTL Transformers LTL Transformers was established in 1982, as a joint venture of Ceylon Electricity Board the Power Utility of Sri Lanka and European investors initially to produce an indigenous transformer. The Company’s production line initially developed with an ongoing Technical Collaboration Agreement with ABB AS of Norway and then moved forward with our own technology. Today the Company’s state of the art production facilities manufacture very high quality transformers conforming to international standards and meet the entire Sri Lankan requirement while about 50% of its production are exported.

Over the time the production capacity expanded to 5MVA Power Transformers including special transformers such as Earthing, Dual Ratio, Isolation, Auto, Rectifier Transformers, Switchgear Panels, Package Substations and a host of others.

LTL Galvanizers (Pvt) Ltd is furnished with ultra-modern CNC machineries and has a manufacturing capacity of 2,000 MT per month. Machineries include CNC Angle punching machines, CNC plate punching machines, CNC profile cutters, Semi-automatic plate shearing machines, and many other automatic and manually operated types of machinery. The company has proficiency in supplying customized steel structures according to the customer requirement.

Hot Dip Galvanizing

The Galvanizing facility is equipped with state-of-the-art plant and machinery from LOI-Thermoprocess of Germany, and updated regularly with the latest technologies as at today. The total production capacity of the plant is 2,500 MT per month.

Social responsibility is a core governance principle at LTL Holdings. All our operational activities take into account potential social and environmental impacts, to minimize negative outcomes and maximize overall benefits. As an element of this business philosophy of minimum harm, LTL also conducts many social welfare projects.

Contributing to society

We believe in meaningful social contributions, that promotes overall social welfare. Over the years, the Company has generously extended its expertise towards public lighting systems and other public health and welfare activities, under this principle of uplifting overall social benefits.

These activities include lighting up many historic religious locations in Sri Lanka, including the ancient Ruwanweliseya Stupa, the Sri Maha Bodhiya and Lankaramaya.
