2007MARKET AND URBAN PLAN. (Borboto)Valencia, SpainProject selected for the “Projects Yearbook 2006-07’ ETSAV (Technical School of Architecture of Valencia) Score - 8.5 out of 10

MKT |

The idea of the project comes from the geometry of Borboto. A collection of built ‘spots’ where empty spaces are genereated, as “irregular holds”.The market is a roof that tries to be integrated in town as one more piece, with a light and permeable look. Paying attention to the non built space, as a symmetry, a plant-natural roof is generated. Both roofs per-mit and favor a smooth fl ow and the space in the site. The holds in the roof act as an intermediate space, between built and non built space by generating a covered space for relation, where the natural element is introduced as well. There is a will to give a look of contrast between the market and the rest of the town but trying to keep the interaction between both. Also, there is a dialog between form and both roof and Borboto geometry. At the end, it is a solid complex that constrats with the perforations of the roof. The complex becomes an irregular element, that changes and it is aparently random. There is a constant interantion between built-non built, full-empty space.

2005RESIDENTIAL-HEALTHCARE CENTER FOR SENIOR CITIZENValencia, SpainProject exhibited and published in the “Projects Yearbook 2004-05’ ETSAV (Technical School of Architecture of Valencia) Grade - 9 out of 10

RHC |

The adopted solution for the project comes from the determining fatcs of the site. They will determinate the fi nal form composition and typology choosen for the complex. It is a very extense and complex program. There is a necesity to articu-late and connect each use and zone. It has been chosen a principal axis to organize each functional package along the axis. Each zone is controled by this central axis. The arrival to the site is by the South-East side. This point acts as a “ball-and-socket joint”, and receives the visitors and residents. There is a gradual and progressive hierarchy in space privacy, from the most public areas to the most private ones, with an exclusive use for resi-dents. Pieces are perpendicularly placed to the main axis by following a strategy for privacy. That way, zoning starts from the Administration Area, as a fi lter, to con-trolate and articulate the whole complex. Then, the Social andHealth-care Center, Apartments, to fi nally arrive to the independent dwelling, with an independent and private character. This gradation is produced also in high, being the most public uses on the fi rst level, and those exclusive uses for the center on the second fl oor.

2005SPORTS CENTER-PARK. Valencia, SpainProject exhibited and published in the “Projects Yearbook 2004-05’ ETSAV (Technical School of Architecture of Valencia) Grade - 8.5 out of 10

SCP |

The Sports Center has been understood as a park, a park for sport. The arrival to the park is by a path of connection, where the visitor leaves his vehicle, for example a bicycle or a car, and gets into the park as a pedestrian. A principal axis articulates the whole complex. The different program packages are connected to the main axis. The axis works as a open path that can be used as a route for running or walk. The green space interacts with buildings and tries to fi nd its own place to create shade areas for relation. There is a dialog between architec-ture and landscape. Buildings open themselves to the outdoor, allowing landscape to get in. At the same time, landscape looks like adjusts itself to coexist with buildings. There is a harmonious and delicate relationship between indoor and outdoor, built-non built, and open-closed space.

To understand a house as a patio. Visual vectors, that attach rooms with the courtyard, are not only a mere resource to reproduce in a routine way the fussion between open and closed spaces. It is an exercise in which the program of needs is very complete and space is limitated. There is the necessity of “compressing” the program of functions knowing that there are four walls that cannot be open to the exterior. In the beginning, the exercise looks introverted, that it gives its back to the outdoor, but thanks to the interior-exterior, in-out, and open-closed game, the inside of the house opens itself to the outdoor. A sequence of courtyards, the indoor-outdoor sensation is a con-stant of project. From the access, a patio as a heart of the com-plex, invites to the outside. There is a sensation of being outside when inside, and viceversa. Privacy is very important in this project. Every space is created attending to the required grade of privacy. There is a gradation between circulations, from most public space to the most pri-vate one. Function is well solved by grouping zones, and day-night spaces. The main patio of the house “distributes” and helps to the appropiate circulations in order to be clear and simple.

2002THE COURTYARD HOUSINGProject graded with the highest score - 10 out of 10. HonorsProject used by the Projects Department as a material of reference
