URBAN DEFRAGMENTATIONORGANIC SUBSTRATUMMIAMI FL 2010
Situated amongst industrial and agricultural land uses, the quarry is in close proximity to a major highway and a busy industrial road. The site itself is bordered by a quarry lake the industrial road to its north, the quarry manufacturing facility to its south, a quarry lake and everglades to its east, and the major highway along with the city of Miami to its west. The site is nearly a mile long, and currently stores industrial materials from the quarry; Jersey barriers, mounds of asphalt, and concrete pipes are some examples. A cattle pasture is located on the south-eastern edge of the site, along with non-native Australian pine.
Through years of geomorphology, our limestone has been morphed into sequences of layers composed of skeletal fragments of marine organism. Upon studies on the limestone, the sedimentary structure of the rock acts both as a sponge, filtering elements and retaining water within voids; and as an aquaculture network, creating some-thing out of absence through its trajectory voids.
The application of the limestone terminology and conceptual studies becomes imperative when understanding the site and its edge condi-tions. Sharing the bounding edge of an industrial site, the landscape starts to act as form of urban defragmentation. Its form starts to de-composed the water edge and create agricultural fields where inhabit-ants learn about the sustainability and the importance of agriculture and farmlands.
North of the agricultural fields, the land continues to defragment into community gardens and eventually into a restoration area composed of pinelands, hammocks, and swamplands. With the proper way of treating the landscape while inhabiting an urban framework. Struc-tures within the landscape will consist of mainly Quarry Machinery and building structures, depicting the industrial aspect of the location. Hard-scape materials will consist of quarry materials, taking advan-tage of the resources nearby. Soft-scape materials will be composed of sustainable materials to demonstrate ecologically sound design.

COILING INFRASTRUCTUREPLACA NOVABARCELONA, SPAIN 2010
Located in front of Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, Placa Nova was the catalist for the old city of Barcelino. It was also used as a hay market for Roman Forum due to its spatial qualities. Today the spaces are used as a multi used event plaza, where locals and tourist come as one to celebrate festivals and dance Sardanas, Barcelona’s biggest cultural dance. The Cathedral of Santa Eulalia establishes the cen-tral node of the space, while the surrounding context composed of dinners and commercial stores play supplementary roles in the daily multi-used activities the site.
The conceptual design focuses on action of coiling and braiding, generating from the notion of how civilians activate the space in no fixed patterns. As a civilian, you experience an elastic and indiscipline characteristics of a dynamic system, which is constantly activating the void within the Gothic Corridors . The dynamic spaces are capable of favoring topological actions based on density of the crowd and performer.
The below ground surface, although being used for primarily park-ing spaces, the edge conditions of these spaces are expanded to the underground facades of the surrounding, subterranean context, cre-ating not only a horizontal interaction on the above surface, but also activating the layers of history the site contains.
These spaces are connected through the slivers of glass, the translu-cent element within the hardscape of the place, creating an unspoken language between both levels. During daytime, the thresholds of glass activate the lower level with natural light and during evening hours, the lower level illuminates the plaza’s translucent pavement, creating ribbons of light from one end to the other.
