AS YOU goThese are simple questions to ask your students as you go home from church or go about your weekly activities.

Can you remember the last time you celebrated something? What was it and why was it worth celebrating?

Why should we celebrate when people repent (turn from sin) and trust Jesus?

FAMILY devotion Consider following up with your student later in the week with the following summary and discussion questions.

SUMMARY: SCRIPTURE

Jesus once told a story about two brothers, the older of whom spent his whole life doing everything his father asked and working hard to make him proud. His younger brother basically did the opposite. So when the older brother found out his father was throwing a big party for his younger brother, the older brother was furious. Through this story, we will be reminded that none of us deserve the forgiveness God offers through Jesus. This is a big part of what makes His forgiveness and love worth celebrating.

DISCUSSION questionsWhat can we infer about God’s love for us from this parable?

How can we keep from feeling like the older brother, jealous of others and thinking we deserve more of God’s grace than others?

PRAY: Thank God for His grace. Pray that He would help you celebrate His grace and fight the temptation to think you are better or more deserving of good things than others.
