them involved He gets high on stage — high on his music ii you can stomach that corny phrase But there he is. closing his eyes for a little bit more feeling, jumping up and down with the end of a song, mesmerized by his music and mesmerizing the audience but not forgetting them.

Obviously the gospel roots were showing through, but it made one realize just how close blues, rock and roll and gospel actually are to each other Hie music his music is a natural, swaying, sing-along type music. was cleared. The crowd was clapping in time, but people were leaving and the back floor lights were coming on Up on stage, though, someone with Murphey’s blond hair was sliding behind the piano

Gods begin and end " Lumpazi vagabundus" i Lumpazi i. but its message is down to earth cosmic catastrophes may destroy the world, but mortals are bound to ruin everything.
The depiction of the human condition through the adventures of three likable tramps is the main theme of Johann N e s tro ys m usical farce presented Saturday night in Batts Hall Auditorium by the German Department
"Lum paz i" is typical of Viennese comedy of the early 1800s: men get their wishes granted by a god or spirit, but they cannot manage their new luck and are finally converted to ho-hum b o u rg e o i s e d o rn est i c i l y . H o w e v e r . N es troy s characters are not so easy to change, for they remain tramps.
Nestroy s play is a satirical comment upon the newly rich of the early 19th Century w ho equated money with happiness.
DR. WOLFGANG Michael director of the plav. ran a great risk in performing this c o m e d y w i t h s tuden t amateurs. Actors have to dance and sing without apparent effort to parody the
music of Mozart, Rossini and others. Dr Hanns-BertoldDietz and William Heber of the music department did a great job in guiding the actors.
A trio with chorus (Sra Taubman. Martha Medford and Stephen Pitts) were good even by professional standards. The songs of theshoemaker-imbiber i Michael Barker» were as expressive as songs from dramas by Bertolt Brecht Barker did superbjustice to his part.
S T E P H E N P I T T S (the tailor) captured the audience with his charming Viennese accent. Stuart Collins (Hie carpenter i let the audience feel his lover's grief when he fell asleep with the name of his love of his lips. Elizabeth Bove, (Fortuna) spiced her short parts with mimic expressions and gestures.
True Robert Kaplan as Stellaris and Karlyn Mitchell as Amorosa had some difficulties with the dignified.
