Risk Factors and Prognosis
Avoid inhaling smoke, gas from factories, and coal products
Start eating fruits and vegetables every day
The prognosis for people with lung cancer depends on the type of stage that that they are at:
o Stage 1: Usually five years or more
o Stage 2: Less than three years
o Stage 3: 15 months or more
Symptoms
In the early stages for lung cancer, symptoms do not really occur. As you resume smoking, you will get symptoms
like:
o Shortness of Breath
o Wheezing
o Losing weight
o Coughing out blood
Treatment/Cures
Function of the Lungs
The function of the lungs is to maintain the body's respiration.
This means that the lungs bring oxygen to the bloodstream and every other place in throughout the body.
Cause of Lung Cancer
Cigarette smoking is the main cause for lung cancer, but there are also other causes for it:
o Asbestos
o Inhaling beryllium, coal, vinyl chloride, diesel exhaust, or gasoline
o Radon and radiation
o Agent Orange
Although there is no cure for any type of cancer, treatments that are given to patients with lung cancer are:
o Surgery of the lung with cancer
o Chemotherapyo Radiation therapyo Clinical trials
Number of Cases
During the years, the number of cases has increased, but the death has decreased.
o For example, in 2001, the number of cases was 183, 200 with 161, 400 deaths.
o In 2011, the number of cases is now 221, 130 with 156, 940 deaths.
Age and Sex Affected
Most of the age groups of where lung cancer is more affected are from the 40 years old to 88 years old.
Men are the most
affected gender or sex for lung cancer.
Prevention
To prevent this from happening, here some things that you should do:
o If you are a smoker, quit smoking now.
o Eat types of food that are rich in antioxidants and flavonoids.
o If you do not smoke, don’t inhale smoke that has been exhaled by smokers
