The grounds were created by the skilled, award-winningArabella Lennox-Boyd who thoughtfully designed multiple,distinct outdoor rooms that can be enjoyed as a larger grouptogether or by smaller more intimate gatherings. The lovelypool is conveniently set by the house but includes a pleasingwaterfall and is shaded by the cooling, green canopy of ahandsome old oak tree. An apron of covered, furnishedterrace wraps the house on two sides so you can wanderoutside with the freshness of morning, a warm cappuccino inhand, and settle yourself comfortably with a lovely view ofyour choosing.

La Civetta is set on a private 15 hectares of land on top of ahill with stunning vistas in all directions, across the patchworkcountryside of farms, past villages to the sea. You are only afive minute drive to the most important historic hill town inthe area, Castagneto, and an additional seven minutes driveto a private beach access on the sea. All these exceptionalopportunities for a graceful holiday are offered courtesy ofthe owners' historic presence in the region going back 37generations. This was once all their land, the entire of the AltaMaremma. Their farmers lived in the farmhouses, theirgrandmother retired to her seaside villa at a certain momentin life, their nieces are choosing the family's historic castle,the construction having begun in the year 1000, for theirwedding celebrations.

OVERVIEWAlta Maremma is considered by the locals to be the 'real'Maremma -- a land encompassing both countryside andseaside with a long and noble history closely tied to theFlorentines. This is a landscape deeply immersed in Tuscantraditions and yet one enjoying a vibrant modern economyconcentrated on Bolgheri and the presence of the region'smost celebrated Super Tuscans. La Civetta is a beautifully proportioned and well-sitedfarmhouse so beautifully redone you will immediately feelrelaxed and at home. The humble life of its originalinhabitants in the 1800s are barely visible today, remainingonly in the graceful arches that define and enhance thedouble-sized ground-floor living-dining room. Every room ofthe house has been touched by a recently completed majorrestoration and redecoration in a sophisticated, pleasing,contemporary style. Each space has been designed for boththe delight of the eye and the practical considerations offamilies and friends on vacation in the Tuscan countryside.
