I wanted to alert you to a very special event that I’m planning to be a part of this September 18-27th, 2014.

My long-time colleagues and friends, income and energy gurus Roger Conrad and Elliott Gue are planning a unique travel opportunity down the Danube, and I’m very much looking forward to joining them on this once of a lifetime excursion. As you may know, Roger and Elliott were both the editors of the long running newsletter, Personal Finance. They have recently started their own letter, The Capitalist Times.

This will be a great chance to do more than just enjoy a luxurious cruise through the heart of Europe – Germany, Austria, Slovakia & Hungary. We also will be a part of a 9-day investment seminar that the three of us will host together. And it won’t just be formal talks. We will be shipmates, dining and touring together, relaxing and sharing our thoughts and notes on everything historical along the river, as well as what could be impacting our investments in the world of tomorrow. Our theme will be “CAPITALIZE ON THE TIMES” (with a lot of historical input from right along our shores).

Roger & Elliott have done conferences like this in the past. They tell me that such are great experiences for everyone who is interested in upping his or her investment intelligence while enjoying some real quality travel and thinking time. This gathering will be quite different from most conferences where everyone constantly moves from one event to the next. The questions that get answered at such gatherings tend to be the quick ones like, “What are the best investments”, and “Are Company X’s dividends safe”?

They also tell me that on the river, there is time to explore the bigger issues, the questions & answers that sharpen investing insight as we discuss them in the context of today and tomorrow’s unique and more intervened markets. Rather than be confined to a 10 minute Q&A, such discussions can continue over dinner and even into the piano lounge each evening.

This trip should prove to be a luxurious opportunity of a lifetime, a chance to relax, re-energize and reflect on what’s happened and happening, and consider the next chapter’s possibilities. Unlike the river’s course which has been set for centuries, this “cruise course” might just promise a fresh perspective on prospects and perhaps even a redirection of plans (investment or otherwise), not as set or charted.

I’ve participated in numerous conferences over the years, and some in pretty nice destination locations. But this is the first time I will be a part of a conference with this much variety and possibilities. It’s been on my bucket list for quite some time, and now I’m getting very excited about it actually happening. As one client/friend told me, “Martin, postpone nothing!” And away we go…

Roger (whose wife may be joining us) also holds his own in market matters and more. Since it’s our 40th, Marjie will definitely be with me.
