    LYNNE JACKSON is currently in her 42nd year as a music educator, holding degrees from the University of Michigan and VandercookCollege of Music. In addition to being a staff member for the Berkner Area, she also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Education at theMeadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. Ms. Jackson formerly spent 26 years as a band director in the J.J. Pearce High Schoolattendance area. Her tenure included positions at North Junior High and Parkhill Junior High as well as thirteen years at Pearce. In 1983, Ms. Jacksonwas selected as the Richardson ISD Teacher of the Year. She is also a lifetime honorary member of the PTA and was the recipient of the 2010Meritorious Achievement Award presented by the Texas Bandmasters Association. In 1995, the National Endowment for the Humanities awardedMs. Jackson a grant to study Mozart in Vienna and Prague. Since that time, Ms. Jackson has traveled extensively throughout Europe, South America,and Canada. She has also traveled and performed with students in London, Paris, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Germany.

    Ms. Jacksons professional affiliations include Phi Beta Mu, the Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Bandmasters Association.Lynne is widely known throughout Texas as an adjudicator, clinician, and mentor to young students and teachers.

    MICHAEL REED is in his ninth year as Associate Director with the Berkner Area Band Program. Mr. Reeds position involves co-directingthe percussion program at Berkner High School with Scott Ward. They also oversee the percussion sections at Liberty and Apollo Junior HighSchools. Mr. Reeds teaching responsibilities at Berkner include both the Varsity and Junior Varsity Battery sections, teaching and conducting thePercussion Ensemble class, and preparing students for successful Texas Music Educators Association All-Region, -Area, and -State level auditions.At each junior high school he instructs the Intermediate Percussion classes, assists with the concert bands, and conducts master classes andsectionals for the percussion sections of each band. Mr. Reed also teaches the AP Music Theory class at Berkner High School.

    Mr. Reed received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M UniversityCommerce. His principal instructors were Bobby Francis, JeffEmge (conducting), and Brian A. West. Additionally, he was named the universitys Mayo Scholar (formerly Regents Scholar) for 1997, an honorbestowed on only 34 students in the schools history. Mr. Reed is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Percussive Arts Society, TexasBandmasters Association, and Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.

    SCOTT WARD is in his fifth year as Percussion Specialist at Berkner High School. In addition to his private instruction duties, he, inconjunction with Michael Reed, is responsible for all percussion activity and instruction for the Berkner Area. Mr. Ward is also thecomposer/arranger of all the percussion music for the marching band.

    Previously, Mr. Ward served as the drum line instructor and adjunct percussion teacher at Texas Christian University in 2004-2005. Hereceived his M.M. in Percussion Performance from Texas Christian University in 2004 while serving as the percussion graduate assistant. He receivedhis B.S. in Music Education in 2002 from Texas A&M UniversityCommerce.

    Mr. Ward is an active composer, performer, and educator throughout Texas. In addition to his arrangements for Berkner, Mr. Ward writeswind and percussion arrangements for a number of successful marching bands and drum lines throughout Texas and serves as a music clinicianfor several high schools and universities each marching band season. Scott is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Percussive ArtsSociety, Texas Bandmasters Association, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

    Originally from Houston, Texas, STEVEN TORRENCE attended Cypress Ridge High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. It was in highschool that he first knew he wanted to pursue a career in music. His love for music education and performing, coupled with the guidance andwisdom of his band directors, fueled his determination to teach music.

    Mr. Torrence went on to attend Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree and hiscertification to teach in May, 2011. During his time at SHSU, he studied trombone with Allen Barnhill, Henry Howey, John McCroskey, and BenOsborne. He also participated in the Sam Houston State University Wind Ensemble, Sam Houston Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, JazzEnsemble, Brass Choir, and Bearkat Marching Band. During his time in college, Mr. Torrence also taught private lessons at Huntsville High School.His students ranged from beginners to high school students.

    As Associate Band Director at Berkner High School, Mr. Torrences responsibilities include directing Concert Band II and Symphonic III,teaching sixth-grade band classes at elementary campuses within the Berkner cluster, and assisting with the Berkner Jazz Band, marching band,and all concert bands.

    About the DirectorsFRANK TROYKA began his career in 1984 in the Richardson ISD at Forest Meadow Junior High School where he was the Assistant Band

    Director. Four years later, he accepted a similar position at Lake Highlands High School where he worked closely with Malcolm Helm.From 1991-1996, Frank was the Assistant Band Director at Westfield High School in the Spring ISD. In addition to conducting the 2nd band,

    he played a significant role in the instruction and design of the marching band, arranging the wind book for the 1992 State Finalist Big Red Band.From 1999-2006, Frank was the Director of Bands at Cypress Falls High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. Under his leadership, the Cypress FallsBand was selected as a finalist in the Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band Competition, a featured ensemble at the Bands of AmericaNational Concert Band Festival, a featured ensemble at the Midwest Clinic, and it is one of only two band programs world-wide to receive the 2005Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The percussion ensemble was a showcase group at the 2004 Percussive Arts SocietyInternational Convention in Nashville and has captured five state championship titles in concert and marching percussion competition in the TexasColor Guard Circuit percussion division.

    In May of 2006, Mr. Troyka accepted the position as Director of Bands at Berkner High School in Richardson, Texas, a move that took himback to the school district that brought him to Texas in the first place. In his tenure there, the Berkner Band has advanced to the UIL State MarchingContest each of the three years it was eligible, finished First Runner-Up in TMEA Honor Band competition, and now returns to the Midwest Clinicfollowing two prior appearances by the Berkner Band under Robert Floyd (1990) and Mike Brashear (2000).

    Frank is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu International BandmasterFraternity, and is an Educational Specialist with Conn-Selmer, Inc. He was honored as the 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year at Cypress Falls High Schooland was one of fifteen recipients in the state of Texas of the 2010 UIL Sponsor Excellence Award.

    JASON SCHAYOT is an Associate Band Director at Berkner High School where his responsibilities include serving as the conductor ofSymphonic Band II, assisting with the marching band, and teaching various classes and concert ensembles within the cluster.

    Mr. Schayot comes to the Richardson ISD after spending eleven years teaching in Georgetown, Texas, and most recently serving as Directorof Bands for Georgetown High School, a 5A program north of Austin. Under his leadership, the Georgetown High School Band received UILSweepstakes awards each year, advanced to the Area level in Texas Music Educators Association Honor Band competition, and performed at theMusic for All National Concert Band Festival. In addition to leading successful marching and concert bands, Mr. Schayot started a thriving jazz bandprogram, directed the pit orchestra each year for the spring musical, and co-directed the full symphony orchestra. Prior to being named theGeorgetown High School Director of Bands, he was the Associate Band Director at Georgetown, the Head Band Director at Forbes Middle School,and the Associate Band Director at Benold Middle School. Before coming to Georgetown, he was the band director at Giddings Middle School inGiddings, Texas, for three years.

    Mr. Schayot holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwestern University, and received the honor of being namedOutstanding Graduating Senior in Fine Arts. He is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and PiKappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

    Mr. Schayots wife, Molly, is a Montessori Guide at the Barbara Gordon Montessori School in Colleyville. They have three young daughters:Mary Grace, Willa, and Evelyn.

    CHRISTOPHER BRONSON is a Dallas native and alumnus of Southern Methodist University with a B.M. in Music Education. While at SMU,Mr. Bronson maintained a Meadows Artistic Scholarship and studied conducting with Dr. Jack Delaney. Under the direction of Delaney and Dr. PaulPhillips he played in numerous performances of the Meadows Wind Ensemble, Meadows Symphony Orchestra, and Meadows Opera Orchestra.

    Mr. Bronsons primary instrument is clarinet. His principal teacher was Paul Garner of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. In this relationshipof five years, Garner was highly influential in Mr. Bronsons development as an overall musician as well as a clarinetist. In Fall 2005, while spendinga semester in France, Mr. Bronson studied clarinet with Philippe Cuper of the Paris Opera Orchestra.

    Mr. Bronson is an Associate Band Director at Berkner High School. His responsibilities include directing Concert Band I, teaching sixth-gradeband classes at elementary campuses within the Berkner cluster, and assisting with the Berkner marching band and all concert ensembles. As aperformer, Mr. Bronson stays active on flute, clarinet, and saxophone as a freelance musician in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.Garrett Lindholm, Off-Stage Trumpet on "Animas Luminis", L.V.
