Frank Brickowski
LVHS Class of 1977
Frank Brickowski was born August 14, 1959. He is the third of five children
born to Bill and Alice Brickowski. Frank attended Locust Valley High School
(1974-1977). He was a two year starter on the basketball team in 1976 and
1977. He had the most games over 30 points in one season (5) in LVHS
history. In his senior year, Frank had 454 points, 4 blocked shots per game and
349 rebounds. Frank led his team to the playoffs and earned All Division
honors. Frank attended Penn State University and blossomed under the
direction of Coach Dicke Harter. In 1980 Frank won the John Lawther Award
as Penn State’s MVP. In the third round of the 1981 NBA draft Frank was
selected by the New York Knicks. Frank played overseas for three years to
sharpen his skills and to be ready for the NBA. In 1984 he returned to the USA
and the NBA. He signed with the Seattle Supersonics. Frank played for
several teams in his 11 year career – the most memorable was his second tenure
with Seattle in 1996 where he helped the Sonics reach the NBA finals with his
physical defense against the likes of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen and Dennis
Rodman. Frank currently lives in Portland Oregon. He works for the NBA as a
liason to the players association. He is a proud father to his son Jack.
Carl DeStefanis
LVHS Class of 1980
Carl DeStefanis was born on November 10, 1962. Carl is the youngest of 5 sons
born to Alfred and Angela DeStefanis of Bayville. Carl attended Locust Valley
High School (1977-1980) where he was a 4 year starter on the Varsity
Wrestling team. Carl was a 3 time Nassau County Champion (1978-79-80) and
a two time New York State Champion (1979-1980). After graduation, Carl
began his Division One Wrestling Career by attending Penn State University
where he was a 4 year starter for the Nittany Lions. Carl was a 3 time Eastern
Wrestling League Champion (1982-1984), and was named EWL Wrestler of
the Year in 1984. Carl set a school record for most career wins during his senior
year and capped his career at Penn State by winning the National
Championship Title at 118lbs in 1984. Carl lives in New Jersey with his wife
Debbie, and they are the proud parents of 4 children (Angela, Matthew, Rachel
and Lauren). Carl began his career at Johnson and Johnson in 1987 and
recently celebrated his 25th
anniversary with the Company. Over the years, he
has held many different executive level positions and is currently the Senior
Director of New Business Development.
John Mohring
LVHS Class of 1974
John Mohring was born November 14, 1956, the second oldest of five children
to Richard and Rita Mohring. John attended Locust Valley High School (1971-
1974) and lettered in three sports – football, basketball and baseball. He earned
All Division honors in basketball and baseball. John was a two year starter in
football. In his senior year he made All Division. After graduating from LVHS
(1974), John enrolled at C.W.Post where he became a standout football player
earning All American honors. He holds school records at Post in sacks (56),
season tackles (135) and Career tackles (439). John was drafted by the Detroit
Lions in the 1979 NFL Draft. He played for the Detroit Lions and Cleveland
Browns of the National Football League. After retiring from the NFL, John
owned a very successful landscaping business for over 20 years. He currently
lives in Florida with his wife, Tricia. They have three grown children John, Jr.,
Logan and Avery. He now owns a car wash in Fort Meyers, Florida.
Frank Brickowski LVHS Class of 1977
Fred Smith
Fred Smith was raised in Glen Cove, New York and attended Glen Cove High
School where he competed in football, basketball and baseball. He continued
his education and athletic career at SUNY Cortland where he lettered in
football and track. Fred began his teaching career at Friends Academy and in
1961 became the school’s Varsity football coach. He remained in that capacity
until 1967 when he assumed the same role for Cold Spring Harbor. In 1969
Coach Smith came to Locust Valley where he served as a Physical Education
teacher, coach and Athletic Director, and led the Varsity football team until
1998.In his 38 year coaching career, Coach Smith guided his teams to 202
wins, 9 Division or Conference Championships, 3 Nassau County
Championships, 1 Metropolitan Private School Championship, and 3
undefeated seasons. On six occasions his Locust Valley Falcons finished the
season ranked in the New York State small school top 25, including:

); 1986(20th
); 1987(4th
); 1988(24th
) and 1996(11th
). Fred’s
career victory total currently places him 3rd
all time in Nassau County history,
and 4th
in Long Island history.
Fred and his wife Gini were married in 1960 and lived in Locust Valley with
their three children, Holly, Kim and Kevin, until retiring to Wilmington, North
Carolina.
