DESCRIPTION
Tlie August Lalilum house i s a small one-story farmhouse of board-and-batten const r u c t i o n . The structure was relocated to i t s present position on the west bank of Neils Creek i n 1893, when a new house was erected on i t s f i r s t s i t e . I t s o r i g i n a l plan was T-shaped, but the addition of a second section on to the back, or western side, of the building i n 1893 produced an H-shaped configuration. Small shed-roof porches extend over the single-door entrances of the east and south elevations. The lower, central portion of the roof i s pierced by a single brick chimney. This roof of intersecting gables i s now covered by deteriorated composition shingles. The windows are double hung with four-over-four l i g h t s . Presently used for storage, the structure remains i n f a i r condition.
SIGNIFICANCE
The A.H. Lahlum house i s a rare example of a l a t e 19th-century residence i n the area that features board-and-batten construction. I t s present owner states that i t was moved i n 1893 to i t s present location about one-third mile south of the o r i g i n a l s i t e . The date of construction i s not known, but i t was probably erected i n the 1880s and i s one of the oldest frame houses i n the Norwegian settlement.
