Promising rainfall prospects for 2016/2017 summer season!

Good news for South Africa’s grain producers is that most local and international weather forecasting agencies are consistently predicting more rainfall from mid-summer this year to early autumn next year. According to a statement issued by Co-

bus Olivier, prediction and research scientist at Weather SA, “wetter conditions are expected during this period and the likelihood of cooler conditions in the mid-summer season has increased.”

This was as a result of an increased possibility that a weak La Niña weather phenom-enon will develop and persist during the summer season, which strengthened the ex-pectations for wetter conditions this summer, Olivier said.

Such unexpected wet conditions have increased the number of casual-ties in that houses, roads, plants were damaged. No exceptions for Lyn-ca as well. In early January 2017, about 1500kg’s of “mix masala red and rough offal” was destroyed and had to be dumped after water caused damage to the cartons/boxes contaminating the contents in Ab-attoir.”

The force of the water was strong that it pushed it into the fac-tory and caused this huge damage. When speaking to Cobus (Technical Manager at Lynca), he said “we had to do some-

thing to stop the water from coming into the facility. While in-vestigating and going around the premises, we found out that the “trench” that was dug many years ago to prevent this huge amount of water from penetrating the walls of Lynca perimeter was clogged up and it was immediately agreed that we going to open it up again, build “raps’ on the drive way close to the main entrance to stop and channel water into the “trench” spooling the water to the outside water waste channels. We are already starting to see

the results of what we did, more water is now seen outside the premises. We also improved the flow of water from the roof by installing storm water pipes to channel this part of the water into the drains to go to the “evaporating” dam.

Occupational Health and Safety in the Workplace.

Made easy with the help of Makrosafe's Occupational Health & Safety Program.

“I have been awarded a trophy and certificate by Makrosafe in recognition of exceptional performance and dedication to New Style Pork Occupational Health & Safety programs implemented as the 2016 health & safety champion”

Safety comment.

“If you want to understand how New Style Pork is doing, you need to look at our work place safety figures. If we bring our injury rates down, it’s because the individuals at New Style Pork have agreed to become part of health & safety program. Safety will be an indi-

cator that we are making progress in changing our habits across the entire company. That’s how we should be judged. We have proved that by achieving three months without reportable injuries and still going on. You can’t order people to change, so I chose improving safety as the key habit to bring the entire company together and all op-erational transformation” A quote from Mr. Bongani Majola.

Health and Safety Champion

Godfrey Hlatshwayo has been working in Deboning since July 2015. A hard and smart worker on the line. Fillet re-moving is his speciality. During the 2016 Lynca annual sports day, he received the Gold medal when he finished 1st in the 3Km race. He finished the race in just 9 minutes 2 seconds. His plans this year include but not limited to mak-ing an appearance in the: Vaal Marathon (05/March), Old Mutual Om die dam Marathon (18/March) just to mention a few that he is already registered and would appreciate the support and motivation from sponsors for transport and regis-tration fees in other upcoming 2017 marathon events.

Godfrey’s 2017 desire is to be successful in both life, health and finance and mostly is to make it into the Headlines of the South African Athletics News.

There is lot of talent but no one to identify it and encourage the kids. At our daily functions, we have Traditional dance, Pantsula dance, Soccer players, and we help children in the community with homeworks/ and School holiday. All this happens at our current place called “Whitehouse” in Sicelo, for Sicelo kids by Sicelo people. Lynca Meats has heard their cry and decided to listen and offer their sup-port in this great initiative. Based on the progress and needs of the project to support the development of this community project in Sicelo, they start-ed with a donation/funds needed towards the Valentines function held on the 18th February 2017 where different groups performed different activi-ties for the audience.

Giving back to the community.

Instructions Place the pork crackling on an oiled baking tray with a 1 inch lip/side. ... Cook at 180C/350F for 10 minutes until soft. Remove from the oven and using kitchen tongs and kitchen scissors, cut into strips or shapes. Cook until golden and crispy. Pork rind is the skin of a pig. It is a common ingredient of sausages, which helps to improve their consistency. It can also be fried or roasted in pork fat as a snack. The fry-ing renders much of the fat that is attached to the uncooked rind, causing the cooked product to reduce considerably in size. This product may be known by alternative names, such as pork scratching's or pork crackling

2016 QA Christmas Outing

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valen-tine, is an annual holiday celebrated on February 14. It originated as a Western Christian liturgical feast day honoring one or more ear-ly saints named Valentinus, and is recognized as a significant cultural and com-mercial celebration in many regions around the world, although it is not a public holiday in any country. Several martyrdom stories associated with the various Valentines that were con-nected to February 14 were added to later martyrologies, including a popu-lar hagiographical account of Saint Valentine of Rome which indicated he was imprisoned for performing weddings for soldiers who were forbidden to marry and for ministering to Christians, who were persecuted under the Roman Em-pire. According to legend, during his imprisonment, Saint Valentine healed the daughter of his jailer, Asterius, and before his execution, he wrote her a letter signed "Your Valentine" as a farewell. The day first became associated with romantic love within the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th century, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. In 18th-century England, it evolved into an

occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flow-ers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").

Security Talk Car jamming remains a common crime in South Africa, and

your insurance company will most likely not pay out if you

are a victim.

Car jammers prevent your car from locking by using a household

remote to override your car’s remote, as they both operate on the

same frequency.

People are often distracted when they walk away from their vehi-

cles, so they are unaware that their cars have not locked and their

valuables are unprotected.

Even items stowed in the boot aren’t safe, because most of the

time the boot can be opened from the inside of the car.

Authorities and the public have known about car jamming for a

few years now – but the problem is increasing. It has become

such a common occurrence that some shopping centres have in-

stalled car jamming detection technology, but even with these

measures in place people still get caught.

It is estimated that in Gauteng alone at least 40 cases of car jam-

ming and theft happen at busy shopping malls and/or one stop

service centres each week.

You are most likely not insured against car remote jamming

While there has been debate about whether insurers should cover

the losses, the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance has ruled

that policyholders are responsible for losses suffered – as the onus

is on them to ensure their cars are locked when they park.

Many insurance company policies specify that they will cover

certain stolen items if they are locked in the boot and the car is

forcibly broken into.

However, if the individual is a victim of car jamming, they are not

covered by the majority of the insurers.

Car remote jamming safety tips

These safety tactics might just reduce your odds of be-

coming a victim of car jamming.

1. Be hyper-vigilant when parking your car. Take note

of any people in the vicinity of the parking area.

2. Park in well-lit, well-populated areas. If you feel un-

comfortable, park elsewhere.

3. Watch and hear the locks engage when you press the

lock button on your remote. Physically feel the doors to

ensure they are in fact locked

4. Most people carry a laptop or tablet in their vehicle,

and criminals are well aware of this fact. Always back up

your hard drive, make sure you have a password in place,

and never openly store your banking details.

5. Take expensive electronics with you when you leave

your car.
