Dear Friends, As we move into the seasons of Thanksgiving and Advent, I am drawn to think about gratitude. I love the quote from William Arthur Ward so much that you’ll see it appear twice in this Lantern edition! And, I invite you to open this newsletter and enjoy the Will and Guy poem “I am Thankful” - it made me smile and it reminded me that even as we journey in different places; places of sorrow, of financial stress, of change, of worry and of health concerns, we can, with God’s help, find something for which we can be grateful. That is my prayer for each of you.

Blessings,

Pastor Sheryl

Congratulations on the AFFIRMATION of your BAPTISM! † Julia de Lange Ardakani † Katie Marie Black † John Robert Lahlum † Matthew James Nowell † Lexi Borka Semeizer † Noelle Ann Weir

We Ate. We Prayed. We RALLIED.

We are feeling energized with exciting events — a large Affirmation of Baptism group, a two handfuls of new Lyndale Lutheran members, our

largest Confirmation class in a number of years, already more pledge cards returned than the year prior and Pastor Sheryl entering year two

let’s keep the momentum. Our congregation giving was up during the month of September.

We welcomed back families from the cabin, Sunday School resumed and we kicked off our new program theme we’ll

carry throughout the year.

WOVEN TOGETHER

IN LOVE,

WE GIVE.

Coming from more than gratitude alone, stewardship praises God as Lord of the harvest, the One whose love and faithfulness assure sowing and reaping. The harvest is not just future bounty but daily blessing — a richer quality of life right now. And, unlike the farming year, each of the seasons of the church year is not only a time of sowing but also of reaping. Stewardship reaps a harvest that includes far more than support for the next year’s

expenses.

The offering experience is first and foremost a sacrifice, a part of

worshiping God, not merely a gift to your

church or a project. Thank you to Nette Boyd-Tempe,

Jennifer Halverson and Kathy Blauert for sharing

powerful stories of stewardship in recent

weeks.

Thanks to everyone who has made a financial pledge

and/or an offering of time and talent as an act of

worship and thanksgiving. Already, the number of

pledges is up from last year. Praise God!

It isn’t too late to offer Thanksgiving through

your financial pledge and gifts of time and talent.

Pledge cards are available at church, or we would be happy to mail one to you.

WE SAID

AND WE DID!

Thank you for everyone’s generous contributions of warmth this season.

Lyndale Lutheran’s basket was overflowing with winter gear

donations for the 2018 Coat Drive.

I am thankful: For the wife Who says its hot dogs tonight Because she is home with me And not choosing to be anywhere else. For the husband Who is on the sofa Being a couch potato Because he is home with me And not spending his time in other places. For the teenager Who is complaining about doing dishes Because it means she is at home, And most of the time she wants to be. For the taxes I pay Because it means I am employed. For the mess to clean after a party Because it means I have Been surrounded by friends For the clothes that fit a little too snug Because it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work Because it means I am out in the sunshine. For a lawn that needs mowing, Windows that need cleaning, And gutters that need fixing Because it means I have a home. For all the complaining I hear about the government Because it means We have freedom of speech. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot Because it means I am capable of walking, And I have been blessed with transportation. For my huge heating bill Because it means I am warm. For the lady behind me in church Who sings off key Because it means I can hear.

For the pile of laundry and ironing Because it means I have clothes to wear. For weariness and aching muscles At the end of the day Because it means I have been Capable of working. For the alarm that goes off In the early morning hours Because it means I am alive. And finally, for too much e-mail Because it means I have friends who are thinking of me.
