Rationale

During my time on level 3 extended diploma in photography, I have gained confidence in myself and to prove that I can better myself in something that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do.

I have learned how to use a digital camera in a manual mode, controlling my images with f-stops, shutter speeds, and iso. I can use the studio with continuous, natural and flash lighting and being able to use the reflectors to create the images. I’m able to use different types of film cameras with different kinds of films, then able to process and develop them in the darkroom. Watching the images develop before your eyes, this part interests me the more I use it.

Being able to use the computer to gain knowledge about Photoshop, light room, bridge Microsoft word and being able to put my work on a blog which helps with the presentation of my work.

Researching about different photographers and applying the inspiration that I get and putting it into my own work. I like Irving Penn still life, Colin Grey and Tony Ray Jones who are documentary photographers which I’m hoping to use with this unit

Project Concept When looking around Blackburn Museum I found a piece of embroidered cotton, that showed King George V and Queen Mary who came to Roe Lee Mills in 1913, the cloth was made especially for this day with a steel grey cloth with portraits of King George V and Queen Mary, as well as a picture of Roe Lee Mill and Blackburn Coat of Arms. This is a beautiful piece of work with a lot of detail. On my project I want to use this piece as my starting point. I would like to go and see where the mill is and document what’s there now. Also I would like to see if I could get some of the tools that they used then and use them in a still life project. I would also like to go to Burnley’s Weavers Triangle that Prince Charles has a connection with, by the princes trust which has given money to develop the area. I would like to photograph the mills in the area as, some have been redeveloped and some have been left, would like to go and see the museum there. There also a material shop that has rolls and rolls of material like that had in the factory shops.  I’m going to be looking at landscape, architecture and documentary photographers. The Equipment that I will be use will be different cameras digital and film, using transparency film, black and white 33mm film colour film, I could also use the 120 film and a 4x5 film. I’m going to put some of my final images on different colour materials and present them a way that fits the theme of the images

Evaluation

I would like to critically reflect on my images after each shoot following my action plan. Then to see what problems have arisen, and how I solved the problems. Then I can take this information into the next shoot, or if I need to change the direction that the project is going in.
