Rohit said that he had beenfascinated by robotic toys fromhis toddler days and recentlyjoined Kidobotikz (a school ofrobotics) to learn the sciencebehind it.

Lions International District 324-A8 (VGP Com-plex, 1st Avenue, Ashok Nagar), Assist WorldRecord, Pasumai India, Quaid-e-Millath Govern-ment College for Women and Exnora Internationalconducted an awareness program on a pollution-free environment by planting saplings in a functionin the college on Sept. 16 (World Environment Day).

The program was inaugurated by Justice A.Kulasekaran (Chairman, Railway Rates Tribunal ofIndia). Justice T. N. Vallinayagam (Judge, Lok Adalat,Madras High Court), M. P. Nirmal (Founder, ExnoraInternational), Dr. G. Manilal (Vice Chairman, LionsInternational Multiple Council), R. Rajedran(Founder, World Assist Record and Dr. K. R. Seetha-lakshmi (Principal, Quaid-e-Millath College) werepresent. Manilal said that thousands of saplingswere distributed during the program, a blood dona-tion and medical check-up camp was conductededucational assistance given to students.

More than 120 eye doctors from all over India attended the 5th ‘continuingmedical examination’ program of Radhatri Nethralaya (Hindi Prachara SabhaStreet, T. Nagar) under the ‘Radnet’ program in GRT Grand Hotel, T. Nagarrecently as part of its 6th anniversary celebrations.

The program focussed on retinal vascular disorders and pathology affectingthe blood vessels of the retina. Latest advances in the diagnosis and manage-ment and cutting edge technology were discussed and deliberated upon byfaculty from all over India.

Dr. R. Praveen Krishna and Dr. Vasumathy Vedantham (Medical Directors,Radhatri Nethralaya) said that special mention was made of the new state ofart Phaco-vitrectomy machine procured.

Under the Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation (the charitable wing ofRadhatri Nethralaya), 9495 persons in villages were screened in 85 eye campsand 38 preterm babies underwent free vision saving laser surgery under the‘Balanethra: Tender Vision’ scheme.

A young boy from a village near Arokkanam, Marshall Raj, with hereditaryretinal problem and low vision, received a visual aid in the form of an advancedmonocular telescope that could be hung around his neck, under the aegis of Gurupriya Vision Research Foundation.

The second Dr. T. N. C. Vedantham Memorial Oration was delivered by Dr.P. Namperumalsamy (Chairman Emeritus, Aravind Eye Hospitals). He spokeon ‘Diabetic retinopathy: A community based management’.

He highlighted the importance of increasing the awareness about diabetic eyedisease among the general population and diabetologists. The oration citationwas presented by N. Kumar (Vice Chairman, SANMAR group of companies).

floods in Kashmir was collected in the donation drive organized by myShareIndia (18th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, Ph: 96000 76870) in association with Goonjand Chennai Corporation in T. Nagar, K. K. Nagar, Anna Nagar, Mylapore,Adyar, Nungambakkam and Velachery.

Various items like woollen suits, blankets, dry rations like rice, pulses, wheatand sugar, essential medicines, footwear and kitchen utensils were receivedfrom donors. The event was well supported by Exnora International and anumber of NGOs.

Pramila Hari (consultant of myShare India) said that the collection wasconducted in Corporation Schools located in these areas. Teachers andstudents helped by working as volunteers in segregating the donations, she said.All the collected relief items were transported to government relief camps in J& K within two days, she added.
