operetta presents many of the classic Mother Goose and fairy tale characters in a Christmas extravaganza. When first conceived in 1903, this operetta's authors rode on the wave of THE WIZARD OF OZ's popularity, which was first staged also in 1903. The story is magical, and the score which includes the songs, "Toyland," "March of the Toys," "Go to Sleep, Slumber Deep" will get you into the Christmas Spirit...and just in time!

HEIDI FREER-FRYAfter decades plus absence from community theater, this fall has been a comeback of sorts for Heidi. Most recently she portrayed Elsa Schraeder in the MAINSTAGE production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and now; as the Mary Magdalene-type disciple in GODSPELL. Spending her days caring for children, Heidi says, "a beat wasn't missed coming to rehearsals each night with this cast of characters! No, but seriously~ what an amazing bunch of folks to work amongst! Top notch citizens to say the least!" She feels truly honored to have spent this time with such fine people one and all! A shout of gratitude goes out to her parents extraordinaire for providing childcare during practices. Also, thanks to the 3T's for cheering on your mom and dad! "I hope that you enjoy the show, prepare yourself for the way of the Lord, turn back your foolish ways, see things more clearly, love thee more dearly, follow God more nearly day by every day."

EDWARD PAUL FRY (Band|Guitar)Ed was last seen on stage at MAINSTAGE in THE SOUND OF MUSIC and is an avid singer/musician and most weekends he can be seen trying to recapture his youth as the lead singer for the band, UNCLE JUJU, around Central Indiana. He is a published songwriter who most recently contributed music to the soundtrack of the soon-to-be released movie, THE LAST RIDE, a film about the legendary Hank Williams Sr. He is also a producer of the forth-coming film about Indiana native singer-songwriter, RICH MULLINS: A RAGAMUFFIN'S LEGACY . Edward is the husband of Heidi Freer-Fry (by whom all things are measured), and the dad of Thaddeus, Tobias, and Theodore.

GODSPELL cast

from THE DIRECTOR

Can a DIRECTOR fall in love with a cast? I believe so, and I believe I have. In this 15-day-rehearsal period I have grown to believe in, trust in, be entertained by, and love these people. This cast of characters includes actors I have enjoyed working with in the past, some whom I have known since they were children, some new to me, some new to MAINSTAGE, and at least one who has never been on stage before. It is a great and rare collection of people. In GODSPELL especially, the cast is the show...it is their own names, their own characters, and their talent that the audience enjoys...my thanks to them is genuine and from the depths of my heart. I must also thank my Assistant & Choreographer, Ned Hannah, without whom much of the magic would be missing. To SARA FIELDS, LISA BENEFIEL & ELMORE HAMMES also I give my thanks for picking up the pieces...remember God is IN the details. As a AND a , I have been torn between staying true to the script and true to the person of God in Jesus. GODSPELL is not a lesson in theology nor a full doctrine of Christianity (it is written by Jewish writers, with the perspective of Jesus as Rabbi) but it still contains the Truth while being designed as a Broadway show. And, although there has been, historically, some controversy among the more conservative, I believe that God is proud of this rendition and He laughs, cries & sings along with us, as we bring it to you. Jesus was the consummate story-teller, using humor, pop culture, and irritating the established church and their leaders along the way, as He spoke to the heart of each person. I believe we’re in good company, and have used that template, which He established, to tell these stories...enjoy the show, and perhaps through it be provoked to “...see Him more clearly, love Him more dearly, follow Him more nearly...day by day.”

Jim is a lifetime Anderson resident who is employed as the Court Administrator for the Circuit Court of Madison County. His hobbies are distance running, the arts, cooking, and sports in general. ROLAND VanHORNRoland has been an active part of MAINSTAGE since 2004 when he portrayed Judge Turpin in SWEENEY TODD. His supporting roles since then have been Mordca in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, “Marcellus” in THE MUSIC MAN and last year he filled the role of Merlyn in CAMELOT. He is also a member of Alexandria Community Theater where this year he was a part of the cast for RED, WHITE & TUNA. Along with his acting and singing he has designed and built several sets for MAINSTAGE productions such as CHICAGO, A FEW GOOD MEN & THE WIZARD OF OZ. He made his directorial debut this season in A FEW GOOD MEN. He is also on the Board of Directors for MAINSTAGE. He spends his free time enjoying his three children and seven grandchildren and cooking for his friends and cast members. His other hobbies include writing, biking and martial arts. He shares his home with his owners, Chinese Pugs, Butkus and Ollie.

JAY WILEDr. Jay L. Wile is the author of the award-winning "Exploring Creation With..." series of science textbooks. He is happy to return to Anderson's MAINSTAGE after playing the role of the nasty Nazi, Ernst in last year's production of CABARET. His previous roles at MAINSTAGE include Harold Hill in THE MUSIC MAN and El Gallo in THE FANTASTICKS. Of the more than 100 roles he has performed, it is difficult to choose a favorite. If pressed, however, he would probably say it was Maurice in Indianapolis Civic's production of BEAUTY & THE BEAST. GODSPELL is a very special show for Jay, because it is the first time he and his wife (Kathleen Wile) have shared the stage. He thanks God for her, their amazing daughter (Dawn Wile), and their wonderful family. As Bishop Desmund Tutu reminds us, "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them.”

KATHLEEN WILEKathleen is pleased to be on stage for the very first time in MAINSTAGE's production of GODSPELL. Past behind-the-scenes theater experiences include, playing violin for musical productions at Anderson University and PLAYMAKERS. She has played productions that include: I DO! I DO!, FILDDLER ON THE ROOF, SINGING IN THE RAIN, DIE FLEDERMAUS & BYE, BYE BIRDIE. She also has assisted with costumes for several productions in upstate New York. She leads worship at church (shout out to Wesley Free Methodist!) and sings with her vocal quartet, 4GIVEN. Kathleen is an Anderson native and in real life has worked as a research scientist and textbook publisher.

DANIEL WOHLBERG (Jesus)After his recent role earlier this season as Billy Flynn in CHICAGO, Daniel couldn't stay away from the stage for long. "Scratching gets you nowhere when it comes to this itch," he commented with a snarky voice, referring to performing (not a rash). GODSPELL marks his 4th production with MAINSTAGE. Thanks go out to Mayor Ockomon and the rest his city coworkers, friends, and family for supporting him through a busy month of life. Also, thanks Director Rick...you're a good egg!

ADAM TRAN (Judas) You may have last seen Adam Tran in CAMELOT as a dashing King Arthur here at MAINSTAGE. Adam is a senior...er...super senior Theatre major at Anderson University. Adam is absolutely crazy about this cast and director (if you're keeping track the only MAINSTAGE shows he's been in have been directed by Rick Vale). Adam enjoys rowing, moonwalking, counting tiles, and of course...Jesus. Adam would like to thank mama for the cookin, grandaddy for the whoopin and the devil for the trouble that he gets into. Enjoy enjoy enjoy...seriously enjoy...this show. Because he sure has!

RICK VALE (Stage & Music Director|Piano)Rick is an award-winning songwriter/composer whose works have been published, produced and performed all around the world; from Carnegie Hall to Siberia, from The Seattle Opera Company to the Anderson Symphony Orchestra. His music has been recorded by such artists as Sandi Patty, and performed by such orchestras as the London Symphony Orchestra.
