Action Requested

The proposed resolution approves the appointment of Dr. Lorin Dean Warnick as Interim Dean of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

Whereas pursuant to Education Law §355(1)(e), the appointment of the head of each statutory or contract college (including the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University) by the respective governing bodies of such institutions requires the approval by the State University Board of Trustees; now, therefore, be it Resolved that Dr. Lorin Dean Warnick be, and hereby is, appointed Interim Dean of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University at an annual state salary of $200,000, effective August 1, 2015.

Background

Dr. Lorin Dean Warnick, professor of ambulatory and production medicine at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, has

served as the Associate Dean of Veterinary Education since 2010 and Director of the Cornell University Hospital for Animals since 2012.

Cornell University President Elizabeth Garrett recommended Dr. Warnick

as Interim Dean of the College upon the departure of Dean Michael Kotlikoff, who accepted an appointment as Provost of Cornell University.

While serving as Interim Dean, Dr. Warnick’s role as CUHA Director will

be filled on an interim basis. Dr. Warnick is an accomplished scholar whose current research focuses

on the epidemiology of zoonotic infectious diseases and the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. He has served on the Board of Cornell University Veterinary Specialists in Stamford, Connecticut. He has had oversight of Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Elmont, New York and is leading the planning for a Community Practice Service facility in Ithaca, New York.

Dr. Warnick received his D.V.M. degree from Colorado State University

and his Ph.D. in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. He is a diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. He joined the Cornell faculty in 1996 after two years at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
