Monday – MATHS - Creating a Financial PlanLoom video: https://www.loom.com/share/b86430d52e5749f196ed979b814be61b Chores: Babysitting: Total savings:

2.50 10.00 48.75 2.50 10.00 + 10.00 2.50 20.00 _____ 20.00 + 2.50 + _______10.00_____ 78.75 With the money in my savings at the end of October, I decided to throw a party formy friends. I need to purchase food, drinks and decorations.

Starting balance Item Cost Balance

$78.75 Food $35.10 $43.65

$43.65 Drinks $20 $23.65

$23.65 Decorations $15.20 $8.45

Independent –1. Use the following information to find out how much money you will have atthe end of the month. At the start of October you have saved up $17.25. Each week you earn $3.50for doing jobs around the house. Your birthday is on the 9th of October and youare given $20 as a present. Use addition to figure out how much money you will have saved at the end ofOctober. Show your working out below

2. At the end of October you decide to have a picnic for you and 4 of yourfriends. Use the following prices to create a budget and list all of the items youwill bring on the picnic. You don’t have to spend all of your savings, but you doneed to have enough food for 5 people.

Wrap up Why do you think a budget is important to thinkabout before purchasing anything?

GOAL -We are learning to use knowledge of addition and subtraction to create afinancial plan.REVISION – Remember: when adding and subtracting decimals in an algorithm, make sure you line up the decimal points and then add normally. Solve these problems using an algorithm and show your working out

Modelled -When creating a financial plan, there are some things that we need to know. Budget: A budget is a plan outlining how much there is to be spent and what tospend it on. When I create a budget I need to first buy the things I NEED and thensee how much money I have left for the things I want. Income: the money that someone receives/earns (addition). Expense: the money spent on something (subtraction). Balance: money left over after purchasing something (subtraction). Example:I currently have $48.75 in my savings. For each week in October I earn $2.50 fordoing household chores. I babysit my little brother twice in the month and earn $10each time. How much money will I have at the end of October?

1. $37.95 + $24.30 =

2. $51 + $48.45 =

3. $94.90 - $38.50 =

4. $138.75 - $74.90 =

5. $350 - $174.50 =

Remember: when adding and subtracting decimals in an algorithm, make sure you line up the decimal points and then add normally.

Solve these problems using an algorithm and show your working out

Question Answer

1. $187.95 + $56.30 =

2. $71 + $43.45 =

3. $211.90 - $138.50 =

4. $438.75 - $111.90 =

5. $660 - $254.50 =

What is a cost benefit analysis?Cost-benefit analysis involves tallying up all costs of a project or decision and subtracting that amount from the total projected benefits of the projector decision. If the projected benefits outweigh the costs, you could argue that the decision is a good one to make. If, on the other hand, the costs outweigh thebenefits, then a person or group may want to rethink the decision or project.

Wednesday – HEALTH - Safe and unsafe situations

Key inquiry question:What actions positively influence the health, safety and wellbeing of my community?

Today we are going to explore how you can keep yourself and others safe throughdecision making. The main focus is on applying decision making skills acrossdifferent environments and contexts.

When making decisions, it is important to identify and understand: The options available

What you know about each option (for example, previous experiences, rules, equipment, signs)

The consequences of each option

The decision you make and how this may impact yourself and others.
